Re: Growlers at TBS
Block Three Saison for $14 deposit included (as I understand the pricing?) They don't really say whether the listed price includes deposit or not. I'm guessing they would say explicitly if the price included deposit. They're currently listing Beau's Buenos Dias for $11.00. If that includes deposit,...

Re: LCBO Employees vote to strike
I think the vote is just a bargaining chip at the negotiation table. While a 1 day rolling strike could be likely, I'd be very shocked for an all-out strike. I've never heard of a union not voting to strike during bargaining, though I'm sure it must have happened. Otherwise the union pretty much go...

Re: Article about 355ml cans comeback
The trend continues, Tree is moving to all-can distribution: http://www.canadianbeernews.com/2017/03/27/tree-brewing-shifting-to-cans-for-all-year-round-seasonal-releases/ My 2 cents about cans: I have trouble thinking of advantages bottle have over cans in general. Specifically for high ABV beers, ...

Re: London, Ontario and Area
For Londoners who may not know, or those visiting, London Brewing Co-op has moved out of the Root Cellar and into their own space. They're re-opening this Sat Feb 25th at 521 Burbrook Place, N5W4B5. Same building as On The Move Organics. (226) 667-6363 Only open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 12-9...

Re: General LCBO Debate & Discussion Thread
Speaking of prices, at the end of Nov someone here was talking about adding a price/volume calculation to an existing LCBO checking website. Did anything ever come of that. I'd like to be able to compare equal sizes of beers to help decide if I think a particular beer is worth it to me. Yes, i was ...

Re: General LCBO Debate & Discussion Thread
We are looking at 500ml for next year, but I cannot say it that will indeed happen. But the general consensus around the brewery is that we need to be in a smaller format. I hope NB (and everyone else) switches to smaller formats for these big beers. Though I also balked at the price the last coupl...

Re: Brewery Acquisitions
I don't think it's fair to say that big brewers can't innovate. From various reports lots of the brewers at the big guys are world-class home brewers and they occasionally will make something on a pilot system that wins competitions. Much more likely is that they know it doesn't matter if they inno...

Re: Brewery Acquisitions
Just read a good article by Jacob McKean from Modern Times, echoing a similar thought: "The goal is to destroy craft beer from within by operating acquired breweries as zombie brands that wreak havoc in the marketplace long after the life has been squeezed out of them." This is the primar...

Re: Beer Coming to Grocery Stores?
noticed that the grocery stores have now added a cider section along side the beer I was surprised by the number of new ciders (and a lot of flavoured alcopop calling itself cider) I saw in the LCBO yesterday. The wine kiosk in Metro across from my work was also pushing some cider I'd never heard o...

Re: Insulated stainless growlers
I haven't tried it, but MEC sells one from Stanley http://www.mec.ca/product/5043-395/stan ... ?q=growler as well as the one from Innate and the seemingly obscenely over-priced Kleen Kanteen. Add $5 for a membership if you don't have one.

NB Judge Rules Interprovincial Liquor Barrier is Unconstitutional
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/gerard-comeau-border-alcohol-ruling-1.3554908 Good news for people in NB. The group who funded this guy's defence wants it to go to the Supreme Court, which would affect the laws in all of Canada. Poor Terry David Mulligan couldn't even get arrested doing ...

Re: Forked River
Grabbed a Capital Blonde Ale tonight, not impressed. I'm not a huge fan of Forked River's regular offerings (Capital Blonde, Rip Tide) but I have enjoyed some of their seasonals/one-offs a lot more. Yup, that's about what I think of them. When they have something new in the LCBO I'll try it, otherw...

Re: Forked River Gets Approval to Open Non-Attached Retail
I remember reading about this when the news dropped earlier this year. If you have ever been to the commercial park where the brewery is located, you'll probably agree that the government's stance was a load of red tape horse shit based entirely on a technicality. Hopefully this means they'll have ...
