I don't recall ever making a beer to fit style. The industry is not based on meeting style...it is based on the opposite. Having beers judged by style is amusing but useless. I loved some of the comments I get from judges about being out of style....oh well. Shit happens.

Vaughan blows. Classic comment. Summing up an amazingly complex relationship in 12 basic letters. I can see it. It does not provide what you desire in terms of beer supply in any way, shape or form and yet you are mere minutes/hours ( from my point of view) from the best Ontario answers - Granite, ...

Most business models for production breweries that I have seen recently include a version of all malt lager or ale as a volume foundation beer with smaller volume seasonals/barrel aged/spiced/soured/stone brewed/vegetable/etc... to create interest and spur growler sales/media reports/award offerings...

IMO, there's only been in my drinking lifetime three "significant" changes to the way beer is sold in Ontario: 1. Sunday retail hours 2. Extending last call to 2am 3. Permitting brewery tied houses Other improvements we've seen in the beer scene (such as LCBO improving import selection) h...

Among the 24 craft breweries already in the TBS are a number of very small breweries like Neustadt & Hockley.

I would love to have a copy of the call made by Val at Neustadt the moment she heard about the offer asking for her $6500.00 back. Classic

Doesn't that mean it's probably brewed at the Molson Downsview plant? If Labatt US is still contracting Molson to brew for them - yes, maybe. The big outdoor fermentors are for Labatt Blue products. I wouldn't doubt that all 5 Blue brands are made at the Molson plant. Specialty stuff is likely done...

So many beers...so many brands to create. When brewers (who often aren't involved in branding or naming beers) stand around, we have a pint and occasionally generate names for brands. Many fall into the category of 'inappropriate ales' and will never see the light of day. Examples: Call Centre India...

It's still just Molson's shuffling money and brands around at their marketing office. Every new marketing phenom that gets hired has to introduce "the next big idea" which in this case is friendly, warm, rural sounding 'Creemore' in the middle of downtown as opposed to unfriendly, pretenti...

I like it in theory but I'm dubious about how the 20 metres is going to be enforced by bar owners. Although I guess the insufferable dickbags I shoulder through outside Jack Astors at Front and Church can now head into the alley beside C'est What and stand in years of dried piss while they light up...

I believe this is simple demand/supply. SN has never had the capacity to look at our market. An importer/distributor friend of mine (who has the rights to SN) indicated that they have had the rights for quite some time but until SN opened an eastern plant, supply was simply not realistic. Things are...

Question: Why would anybody question the logic of aggressive Michigan breweries from avoiding a market with 7 million purchasers right next door? A bit obvious isn't it? Just look who runs our province. Many of the fence riders post here and run some of our bigger craft breweries. Thank godness I'm ...

Only in Ontario would an industry trade association not only be unable to attract the majority of its industry, but also support an archaic system which benefits competitors that aren't actually in their membership. What he said. It is the same province where we have to hold our nose to vote yet we...
