Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

In fact going further I often most enjoy plain ol' imperial stouts even sans barrel-aging. OG Tempest is one of my favourite Ontario beers. Wellington Imperial Stout is still going strong it seems. Really liked it back in the day. Is it still as good as ever? Going back even further, I used to look...

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

As mentioned, Third Moon and Barncat have done some wonderful stuff in this category. Both have made bourbon barrel impy stouts far superior to the BCBS I had. Amsterdam and Collective Arts, as mentioned, have also had some solid entries into this category. Great Lakes Solstice is another one. I'm g...

Re: Goose Island Black Friday & Bourbon County Stout

To each their own, but I think there are way better stouts, at a better price point, than BCBS. I had my first one (actually 3) last year and was underwhelmed for sure.

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Regarding the Maclean's move. My local had to drop them (temporarily I hope), since they really screwed up their deliveries. Stuff wouldn't arrive or the order was ignored, they wouldn't bring the larger kegs, refused to take them to the cooler, etc. Maclean's said that they were having trouble wit...

Re: Talk or Action?

Honestly, I'm more annoyed by TBS being the only option for container return. Especially as more and more locations close and not everybody can make their way to them with empties. If they blow it up, I sure hope they come up with something smarter. The proper solution is universal deposit on all b...

Re: Talk or Action?

The article is paywalled, so the answer might be in there, but I thought it was just the LCBO who don't sell by the case. I've bought cases of beer at a discount direct from breweries before; Great Lakes sells a number of their beers at a case discount through their retail and online stores for ins...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Skeleton Park is definitely smaller and with worse offerings, than the other two. Seems like Spearhead owners were happy to pull the chute and take a soft landing with a potential recession looming, while Skeleton were looking to double down on their shrinking market. The fact that the tripled down...

Re: Shrinkflation

Curious if anyone else finds themselves feeling similarly about a lot of the stuff being released today; and regular items for that matter. Yes, absolutely! Definitely in the one-off/seasonal categories, I've noticed lighter/thinner beers and often wondered if it had more to do with costs than with...

Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer

Henderson's Brewing Co. Pearson Express IPA Showing at LCBO 3.65. Not bad for the price, still has an identity crisis between a Weissbier and a sort of OK IPA. The fruity tones remind me of Schneider. But it has some fullness to it so maybe try one and see what you think. This isn't the NA version ...

Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer

For those abstaining, they scratch the itch. For those reducing, I think this is where the real value lies. After 1-2 leaded beers, you can switch to NA and with these high quality replicas feel like the session has not come to an abrupt end. And as a bonus the next morning isn't ruined, either. Ex...

Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer

Anyone know if there has there been a re-order of the Adnams ghost ship NA, or is it just remnants of what was brought in a year (or more?) ago? Interested t otry this one. It's still the one from over a year ago. It's beyond it's expiry date on the can, and when I've brought it up to anyone in sto...

Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer

There was an either Omnipollo of Mikkeler(I can’t remember which) ipa which was available at the LCBO, which probably had the closed body to a real ipa that I enjoyed. ... The partake pale ale is solid ... Clausthaler is one of my go-to beers if I’m grabbing a single or two from zehrs. ... Sober Ca...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

I don't think that's why MacLeans is closing, however I think the other investors might say otherwise. Maybe not burnout per se, but lost the love of it I'm sure.

That said, I think burnout was was one of the main reasons we lost Barncat.

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

I found this, posted 2 days ago: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-commercial-office-space/guelph/turn-key-brewery-for-lease-in-guelph/1674405674 This is the space Fixed Gear took over from StoneHammer (the original brewer of MacLean's, funny enough). So I don't know if Fixed Gear has left or what's going on,...

Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out

Instead of starting a new thread for each brewery we hear in the news closing or otherwise that don't already have a thread dedicated to them, I thought I'd just start up a general one. MacLean’s Ales Closes Brewery & Moves Production to The Collingwood Brewery https://www.canadianbeernews.com/2...
