I'm going on memory, but appearance-wise there in the same camp. Thrust is more fruity/tropical. Lake Effect I found to be more west-coast/citrus. If that makes sense.

Thrust, an IPA — Great Lakes Brewery

I've just done a review on my blog, but this is an amazing IPA. Big juicy fruity hops, some dank and earthy notes. Just lovely.

Thanks Derek. I'm actually really curious to see how much weight I actually lose, as I'm still taking in at least 2000 cal/day just in beer, plus juice and sugar in my tea/coffee. This doppel we made is crazy though. The mouthfeel is a bit unusual at first, because it's so viscous; not as thick, but...

It's back again this year, and tasting better than ever. Get it at both breweries, bars, and the LCBO.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the BrewHouse one-offs are generally only sold in bottles (if there are any) at the BrewHouse. Because some of this was kegged for Volo and some for Amsterdam, there will be limited bottles, if any.

Hey all. Hmmm, I feel like I'm going mad, I just checked at the info at white labs seems to say WPL051 likes things in the 18-21 range, but I swear the label (which I've since peeled and tossed) said 19-23 At any rate, the temp has actually been bouncing from about 19.5-22 (mind you I hadn't factore...

Just did my first homebrew yesterday. Many things went wrong, but it's plugging away right behind me now (our bedroom is the only room in the house that sits at a steady 22C), just waiting to see how it turns out. Had a problem with brewprint, and accidentally way over-hopped it. I'm just hoping for...

Mark, I totally agree with you about brewers getting base styles down before amping them up. I can almost hear the conversation: Brewer A "Hey we should try making a black IPA" Brewer B "Totally! except, let's use a Belgian yeast" A "Oh yeah, that would be awesome! And let's...

Been away all day and this thread keeps growing. And I agree, good healthy discussion covering a few different aspects of the current scene. Mark, regarding using aggregate sites as a purchasing guide, I've already said twice, that I think that's just fine. But I have a serious problem with you call...

PeenSteen, It was me who said that, though I think what I said was "if you think there aren't any good BA beers in Ontario, maybe you need to drink more." One of the problems with bartowel, is that with screen names, I rarely know who I'm talking too (not being a frequent user of the site)...

Mark, Thanks for proving my point. You admit to knowing nothing about a brewery, I'm guessing based on geography you've never had their product, and yet, you're willing to publicly trash them as being gimmicky, based on reading reviews? Well done. This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about, in terms of ...

Mark, While I will also defend Bush Pilot and Spearhead, if you're bound to hating on contract brewing, there's not much to be said. But Radical Road is a contract brewery, in that it's Simon and John, brewing on the same brewhouse they use EVERY DAY at Black Oak, but producing a product where they ...

Well put, thanks. I've had some really good barrels (in my books) from a few others, but hey, as we've already nailed down pretty well here, one person's world class is another's meh ;)

Edit: Cratez, well put too.

Regarding barrel-aging right now in Ontario: Indie 90-100 barrels full of beer Amsterdam ~75 though Cody is literally on the road right now with a fresh shipment from Niagara. Should be at 150 in the next few weeks Nickelbrook ~100 No word from Lackey yet but he's probably in the same range, and Saw...
