That monks are involved in brewing Trappist beer does not mean that monks brew Trappist beer. The article perpetuates that myth, and ignores the fact that several of the breweries are already separate entities. The monks control and oversee, but don't necessarily brew. The number of monks may be dwi...

Yes, the mountain of Rochefort 8 that was at Summerhill a few weeks ago has been replaced by a mountain of Rochefort 10.

I also noticed that Unibroue 17 is $3 off now (until the end of January, if it lasts that long).

The question was how it would hold up past its BB date, not about its aging potential (which, I agree, is probably nonexistant, especially if it's pasteurized). Saying that a beer tastes good now, though, is less relevant for a beer that could taste exactly the same for years to come.

I notice the Jacobins has a Best before of 06 02 15, anyone think this would hold up for (much) longer than that? i dont hink so, its filtered and back sweetened, and drinking good now not one for the cellar IMO I disagree, but I might change my mind if I knew exactly how this beer was made. Assumi...

Well I guess my timing was perfect. Went to Summerhill sometime after noon and didn't see any. Figured I'd go to Manulife on the off-chance that their 24 bottles hadn't disappeared yet and happily arrived at about 1pm to see the guy just stocking the shelf. Took a couple, left a bunch.

My bottle of Saison, picked off the shelf at Summerhill, was absolutely fine. More hop character than I remember, but I've been drinking aged stuff for a long time. Ignore my previous comments; I would recommend aging this. Drink it like Orval: have it fresh, then try it again at 1, 3, 5 years to se...

How does the flavor change if you cellar this for a while? As you'd expect, the hop character fades away and the flavours round out, but it's quite stable otherwise, still lively even after a decade. One of things I love about Saison Dupont is its ability to manage both freshness and maturity at th...

10 years. No joke. I'm still enjoying the half-dozen bottles I have from the SAQ dating to back to 2004. I think Saison Dupont is probably immortal.

only 10 bones!
Picked one up at Summerhill this afternoon. They got a good chunk of the 56 cases--I counted at least eight out on the floor.

At Front and Sherbourne, they had a dozen "cold shots" with $1.00 price stickers on them. I was going to buy a few for my girlfriend as a joke. The cashier had a generic code, but it came up as $2. when I pointed it out, she said she couldn't change it. That's another issue altogether. Ba...

The worst thing about Guinness is not the beer itself, but the way it continues to fool otherwise sane people into thinking it's wonderful. I mean, did anyone catch the Dublin episode of The Layover last week? I'm a fan of Tony Bourdain, but jeez, you'd think he was drinking God's homebrew.

Went to Manulife and Summerhill today, picked up Founders and Green Flash at the latter. Both stores had these beers well away from the beer section, so if you're like me and normally bypass the rest of the store you may miss these entirely. Also, glad I picked up some Double Hophead earlier--$6.75 ...

Hmm. :-? Was kinda hoping/bracing for an Avec Les Bon Voeux/Moinette Blonde/Biolegere assault on my wallet.

Cervesia is an interesting choice. Moinette Brune is good. Hope that Saison Dupont still shows up at some point (summer?).

This could've been so awesome...
