Re: Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?
Last time I had Bell's Two Hearted was 2018, and even by then I thought it had less bite, though I still loved it. Every time I revisit a west coast IPA they seem to have less bite than I remember, so I suspect breweries are tweaking the hop schedule to tone down the bitterness. Admittedly the styl...

Re: Great Lakes Brewpub (Queen's Quay / Jarvis)
I've really got to get down there, if not just for Pompous Ass on nitro, but that menu looks delicious; nice balance of staples with just enough of a twist. Also that rhubarb crumble really catches my eye, takes me back to homemade pies with rhubarb grown in our garden.

Re: Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?
I just happen to have had a Two Hearted in the last month or so, and it's still great. I do wonder if it's been tweaked a little bit though, it didn't quite have the hop bite I remember from many moons ago. That could just be me and my memory, of course. I wonder how it's rep is holding up in the U...

Re: Would beers from the past be highly regarded today?
There are plenty of examples of beers that have been largely unchanged for decades that are still excellent. Heck, many of my favourite beers fall in that category. Rochefort 10 is and always will be outstanding. So anything made back then that stacked up against those things I think you have to co...

Re: Stone goes to Sapporo
I think what I meant to say is probably more related to recipe cost cutting, Mill Street comes to mind; the quality is generally good but there's no way these recipes weren't cheapened, especially Tank House. No arguments there - Tank House definitely doesn't have the bite it once did. Luckily ther...

Re: Stone goes to Sapporo
I'd love to have Arrogant Bastard available again, still nothing quite like it locally. Unibroue and Anchor product quality hasn't seem to slide under Sapporo ownership, I imagine the same will be true for Stone. Granted it's a fair point that it didn't seem to help with Ontario distribution in Anc...

Re: What're you drinking right now?
I know what you mean, you often hear about hop burn in the style and it can be described as an astringent, sort of vegetative flavour. I've definitely experienced it, especially in some of the more hyped local breweries whose hazy IPAs are often overkill to my palate. In a seemingly counterintuitiv...

Re: Toronto Craft Beer Festival
I'm sorry, what? Tickets don't guarantee entry? You'd have to be insane to throw away $35 on an event you might not get into lol. I guess as the old saying goes, there's a sucker born every minute.

Re: The Second Wedge
I've come across their beer largely in Durham Region LCBOs and Superstore, but some in Scarborough as well. The damage is unbelievable, really unfortunate and hopefully they'll be able to rebuild quickly. Apparently they don't have access to a lot of their stock and are working through everything wi...

Re: What're you drinking right now?
Totally! Dab at 2.40 a tallboy is a cottage staple for me. For sure, I'll often grab Dab Dark. Haven't had the original for a while, might need to revisit. I generally go with bulk Great Lakes purchases, since they have case discounts, if I want a serviceable, cheaper option. The Great Lakes Lager,...

Re: What're you drinking right now?
Inflation's a bitch so I've been searching for palatable, cheap options as my "utility" beer. I generally find the German imports to be high quality for the dollar, but honestly I've been drinking a fair bit of Cool Beer and it's definitely serviceable for $39/case. I know, I'm probably go...

Re: Pedal Pubs in Toronto
I’ve never rode on one, and probably never will, but sure. Always funny that everything in Toronto is a pilot and it can’t just be made allowed. https://twitter.com/joshmatlow/status/1520048113657991169 EDIT: this tweet was from Josh Matlow, who was making a big deal about pedal pubs, but then subs...
