Re: Ontario Brewing Awards 2021
While I do agree with a lot of what you're saying and generally find the OBA's to be not the best representation of quality in the province, Especially given the conspicuous absence of so many trendy/popular Ontario breweries I do question the last paragraph you wrote. I'm just curious if you've ta...

Re: Ontario Brewing Awards 2021
I'm sure there are many breweries out there, especially ones that don't get the kind of social media & writer love as others do, which still believe awards shows are a way to break through. As long as those breweries exist, awards shows will still continue as they'll pay for their entries. And ...

Re: Ontario Brewing Awards 2021
I tend to wonder how relevant these sorts of competitions are these days, especially with many breweries not entering and the sheer volume of beer that is released. With the democratization of information and opinions it seems that the formal critical role is increasingly replaced with community sou...

Re: Great Lakes
The Lake Effect I have been buying over the last couple weeks is in very good form. My memory might not be as good anymore, but it seems to be there with the best of the past years. I think it was only last year when I think it was not quite there. Keep in mind, we are still talking about an agricu...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Nice! I think Tynt Meadow and Spencer are the only Trappist breweries I've yet to try, this one sounds like it will be particularly unique compared to your typical abbey styles. A whole bunch of other interesting listings just showed up as well; Godspeed's Polotmavý Ležák 11° Amber, Cranberry Tanger...

Re: Montreal
Awesome, thanks for the great writeup and photos Cass! There's just something about Montreal, I need to get back out there one of these days. Poincare sounds awesome, I'd love to have something like that here though I suspect our stricter Ontario serving laws might discourage true Koln-style service.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
I have seen some of the chatter about Timothy Taylor and I have to admit I didn't realize it had such a reputation. I’d completely agree with this statement. A pint of Landlord on cask is maybe the most enjoyable Beer I’ve ever drank. They really are few and far between being made here, and even de...

Re: Great Lakes
I concur, Thrust is tasting really nice this year; one of the best in recent memory. Lake Effect however? Wasn't as impressed, flavour profile seemed flat/dialed down. I noticed this with Lake Effect when I bought some on the day it was released. Ended up buying a couple more cans a few weeks later...

Re: Anyone get a beer advent calendar?
I was considering one but decided against it since I'm trying to reel in my beer budget these days. I got one a couple years ago and it was fun, nice to see so many options nowadays.

Re: What're you drinking right now?
Tried the Timothy Taylor Landlord- I understand why it is appreciated around here. It's hard to pinpoint the exact 'wow' aspect, rather it's just an all around high quality beer that you don't want to stop drinking. Fresh bready malts, just the right balance from the hops with citrus and tea-like no...

Re: Bossanova on Roncesvalles in Toronto
So I'll start by saying I absolutely love the new rules that have expanded access to beer, and all the shops that have opened up over the past year and a bit. I haven't been to Bossanova specifically, but these shops are an especially convenient way to try a variety of beers from breweries that I do...

Re: Godspeed Brewery
I'm inclined to agree that Godspeed is the best brewery in the province, certainly the best at brewing lagers. I've had few if any that come close to the depth and quality theirs.

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Picked up this year's Amsterdam Flight Pack as it contains Tempest. However it also contains their Kerstmis Bier doppelbock with retro graphics, from what I can find this is a resurrection of a discontinued beer from the early 2000s. Amsterdam is funny in that I can't find any mention of it on thei...
