What other breweries have also switched to pale festbiers, and what brewers still make the oldschool marzen? I had the Ayinger Oktoberfest on draft in Philly, it was not pale or tasteless. Golden brown and sweet biscuity malt taste. It is the top-rated marzen on ratebeer and I can see why. Not avai...

I have not yet been so I can't say how good they are, but the 2 things that intrigue me in Buffalo are Fort Niagara (well actually that is in Youngstown north of NF) and the Pierce-Arrow museum. The latter is high-end cars made in Buffalo in the '20's - my grandmother had one. Also have not yet been...

Thanks to all of you for the great info on Philly. Just got back from a weekend visit, and was able to stop in at several great spots: Tria, Monk's Table, Nodding Head, and McGillins. Great variety and quality and all in fairly easy walking distance from each other. Best beers were Bell's Two Hearte...

Based on what? Two weeks ago in Wegmans Orchard Park Southern Tier IPA was $7.99 for six while Stone IPA was $11.99. I think that 50% more is significantly more. I think Stone is delicious but poster was looking for value and I think ST delivers that.mintjellie wrote:Stone does not cost significantly more.

The more local beers are more cost effective. That means Southern Tier, Great Lakes (I like the Burning River IPA), and also I have had very good success with Ithaca Beer Company. Californian micros such as Stone IPA are a bit better but cost significantly more. Sierra Nevada is great stuff and due ...

Maybe next time, don't rely on RB or BA and just ask the locals; they'll always point you in the right direction. I always asked the bartender something like what is your best beer, what is the most interesting beer, and frankly not once did I get a useful response. Lame responses included: I don't...

Stopping in Sandpoint and Coure D'Alene on the way. I go to CdA on business, so I will help you out. There are two good spots there. Moontime is a very casual restaurant with kind of an earthy vibe, best tap list in town and seriously hot waitresses. It is at the east end of the main drag, Sherman ...

Thanks for your suggestions. I was able to take on some but not all due to the family nature of this trip. Did not get beyond railway station in Sheffield, unfortunately. Single best beer was found on cask at Maltings in York. Called something like Old Toad from a new outfit called Doncaster Brewery...

Anglophiles, I will find myself in the hometown of my ancestors next month. I have minimal understanding or appreciation of British beer. I like German wheat beers or American Pale Ale or IPA's and the like - things with multiple levels of flavour. (Three Floyds Alpha King is the best beer I've ever...

I go to Buffalo often enough that I am able to keep Southern Tier IPA on hand at all times. A nice budget choice when bought in the US. When I want something even better, my first choice (availability constraints mean that my real first choice, Three Floyds Alpha King is not possible) is Stone IPA, ...
