The other side is if servers have a rough year with poor tips, they are STILL expected to remit taxes for a PRESUMED minimum amount of cash tips they did not even earn - this is the government robbing from the poor. Are you sure about that? I have heard that talked about before where they assume yo...

What I don't see (and what all of you are grappling to find) is a firm correlation between customary tipping (To Insure Prompt Service) and better service as a result. You've all demonstrated this by very good examples. In places where tipping is customary, the region to a large extent dictates whe...

With respect to Canadian beer bars, I'm a little bit surprised that so many people on here claim to leave 15-20% "before" taxes. I've found that leaving anything less than 17-20% on top of taxes typically earns you the scorn of servers and all but guarantees shitty service on your next vi...

Theory A - servers will be bad whether or not paid well to begin with, aren't worth tipping decently and can only be 'disciplined' (yeah right) by tipping meagrely. Boy, what a 'lose-lose' deal there! You still pay nearly as much and don't get good service. What if - Theory B - servers would be hap...

Tips % should be a reflection of service. If it was to be included in the final bill I'd fear that service in some cases wouldn't be as great. That being said, 15% is a minimum (after tax)... its usually 20% on smaller bills. 10% (pre-tax) is just cheap. I give 10% or less if service is crappy. I f...

I have nothing nice to say about Broadhead. We'll just leave it at that. I'm not a big fan of Big Rig either, but I stop by fairly frequently. Their new production facility (where the Broadhead Amber is brewed and canned) is less than five minutes from my where I live and has had something new on t...

Well, exactly, that is the fallacy in TBS's proposal. They are only offering the five closest stores to the brewery, not all "local" stores. So why not just drive the extra five minutes to the brewery then? Though two caveats I guess: for a rural brewer, say Whitewater, the five closest s...

I would take that rant even further and say that if any beer tastes good drink it. Hell if any liquid tastes good drink that too.

http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1469257/major-announcement-beer-store-opens-ownership-to-all-ontario-based-brewers-new-small-brewer-benefits-package-unveiled Looks like they are reducing or eliminating a bunch of listing fees (small brewers can get into up to 5 local stores for free. This shouldn't be a beer issue but an economic one, which would give it more weight alongside health, education, etc. Exactly. If someone just framed it as a corruption, corporate political donation scandal it could go somewhere. Even just as a general thing about outlawing political donations from...

If a party or a political group really wanted to make an actual election issue over this, it would seem to me that the better tactic would be to forget about beer, but to make a campaign promise to outlaw corporate/union political donations (which are legal in Ontario, but not federally). Because h...

I'm just speculating, but I've thought for a long time that the OCB decided a while back that their best path to growth for their members is to get in good with the LCBO and just ride the craft beer wave with prominent product placement in the stores that have a near monopoly on it. It's not good f...

I'm not sure (as has already been discussed) this development is at all good for the OCB. Could severely limit their shelf space in the end. Might be a case of be careful what you wish for. This is true. But at the same time it has basically been radio silence from the OCB. You would think they cou...
