Re: Bellwoods Brewery

I think Bellwoods has managed to keep up with demand. Once they have their production brewery they can use the original location to brew these types of special releases all the time.

Re: Godspeed Brewery

A 'smith' is generally associated with a trade or craftsmen i.e. Blacksmith, Goldsmith, Locksmith, Gunsmith, Bladesmith, etc. I have also assumed that AleSmith was a play on these words. i.e. someone who crafts beer. Hence the Blacksmith anvil in the logo. I know. I too assumed Belgian wasn't being...

Re: !! La Vitesse de Dieu !!

I don't like the name, but whatever, I'm sure the beer will be good to incredible. I'm sure the brews will be incredibly popular even as 'Godspeed', there are far less auspicious brewery names. I mean take Alesmith, what the heck is 'mith' anyway ? But you know they make ales. Are you serious? How ...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery

In all seriousness, if anyone can name one Ontario brewery/brewpub that is even close to being at the same level as Bellwoods, please share. When I don't want to purchase one of their releases, due to price, distance, or otherwise, I just pass.

^^^ Agree with all of your benefits/detriments in principle, but I would still say opinions are just opinions. There can be well informed, insightful opinions or baseless opinions said simply to get a rise. I think most reasonable people can sort them out pretty easily. Most things that do get deba...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I have to say I disagree about the selection of stouts at the LCBO. Bolshevik Bastard is extremely worty, and doesn't hold a candle to the stouts across the border. I don't even have a stout in my regular LCBO rotation, and I love stouts. Tempest? Russian Gun? Tempest is ok, but I wouldn't pay $5 f...

Re: What're you drinking right now?

Westmalle Tripel (02/02/17) Nice beer, but already going downhill. This beer is best bright and fresh. The sediment in this beer tastes horrific and needs to be carefully left in the bottle. Rodenbach Vintage 2013 Absolutely fantastic. Much more balanced and complex than our recent batch of Cuvee D...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I have had two bottles of the Aug 28th batch of Aphrodite, and it is quite thin and oxidized. It is still an interesting stout, but it lacks the body and vanilla/cocoa of fresher batches. Still, it's not like there are any stouts of equal quality at the LCBO... *By the way, does anybody else notice...

Re: GTA Coffee

something you should know about a coffee joint - if they take pride in their product and you aren't satisfied, ANY of their staff will want to know and should re-pour you one for free. if they don't offer you a re-pour, find a new coffee shop. plain and simple. I ordered an espresso at Pilot's tast...

Fresh Weihenstepaner Hefeweissbier - BB 13/10/2016 Bottled October 13, so around 2 months old. It's drinking very nicely. * Has anybody opened a bottle from the Bastard Box? How are the beers tasting? I am not sure if the bottles have a 3 month or 5 month BB date in Ontario. I know the first Stone s...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

So I take it only the regular Arrogant Bastard is the one with the short shelf life and the others have some time. Think the two without dates can be cellared for a while (at least that's my impression??). Sorry my post had some typos. Oaked and regular Arrogant Bastard are enjoy by Jan 6, 2016... ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

I'm finding the Lake Effect very bitter, almost burnt rubber bitter and metallic. The tropical fruit is there, but in a sour rocket jolly rancher kind of way. Not impressed.

I had a bottle of Liberty Ale dated Oct 2016 a couple hours later and found it more enjoyable. Maybe I'm crazy.

Re: LCBO - Fresh Stock Locator

The freshest Pilsner Urquell is now labeled: best before 18 07 16. Since Pilsner Urquell has a 9 month shelf life, it was brewed October 18 2015, so its under two months old. There is Liberty Ale stock dated 10 2016, so its under 90 days old. SNPA is out dated October 24 2015, so this is a great tim...
