I've never had a problem returning anything to the LCBO, with or without receipt. Without a receipt you're only allowed to exchange it for something else.

They had some Chimay gift packs available at the Cooper St (Queens Quay) LCBO when I was there yesterday. They weren't in the beer section but were placed with the wine gift packs in the front corner of the store. On a positive note the Guiness pack was prominently displayed on the floor.
