Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

Here's the gory details...

http://www.ontariobudget.fin.gov.on.ca/bud04e/paperc.htm Scroll down about one-third, and here we go: Revenue from Spirits, Wine and Beer The following changes will be effective June 21, 2004. I ran into the same problem (saw the "Closed" sign when I tried to go there for dinner last Sunday). That whole complex is horribly designed -- you can't see half the restaurants from the outside! No wonder so many of them are doing poorly... At least the Whitby location is clearly visible...

Didn't get around to writing my annual Calgary review this year, but not too much new. Three things I remember: 1. Hop N Brew (12th Ave SW). 2-story house converted into pub (pool tables and foosball upstairs). Decent local tap selection. 2. Wild Rose Brewery (wildrosebrewery.com). Had the "Ind...

Was in Akron, Ohio on business last week and here are a couple brief mini-reviews: (before you ask, no, I didn't get the chance to visit Great Lakes in Cleveland) 1. Thirsty Dog Brewpub. (across the street from my hotel in Montrose) Local chain of brewpubs, I guess they are to Ohio what Brewster's i...

Passed by to check things out tonight.

Not only is the tap selection great, but the food is top-notch.

Plus, it's staggering distance home. What more could I ask for?

KLB must be making a big push or something -- driving home the other day, I heard a radio ad on 91.1 for some event. Forget what the event was, but boy was I jonesing for a Raspberry Wheat when I got home.

Well, the turnstile (which looks like it got lifted from a Shoppers Drug Mart) answers at least one of my questions.

Perhaps I'll go check it out on my lunch hour...

"Citrus Fusion"... that name sounds more appropriate for an alco-pop. Gotta chuckle everytime I see Floris Ninkeberry. In Calgary last week (vacation), the local beer retailer (small hole-in-the-wall store I visited) seemed to have a disproportionately large inventory of Ninkeberry...

For most of the 'unwashed masses', the only way they'll ever try something different is if their favorite mass-market brand X is out of stock. I'll refrain from slagging the LCBO though. I'm heading out to Calgary next week -- the Alberta experiment should be proof that retail liquor privatization d...

My worst beers? Discounting the Big Two (that's like shooting fish in a barrel), I'd have to say it's a tie between Pilsner (no not the style, but that awful brand from Alberta with the faux-German font on the label) and the infamous Drummond Beer Beer. As far as the SATB, I wish I saved a bottle fo...

Hi Greg, I believe Gordon Biersch was going to open 2 locations in the GTA: Oakville and Whitby (both in those AMC theatre complexes). I see no signs of activity in Oakville, but on my way back from the cottage last Sunday, I noticed the Whitby one seemed to be completed (it's located near Thickson ...

The only brewpub I've heard of in the area is the Grizzly Paw in Canmore (about a 20 minute drive away). Never been there myself. In Banff itself, I would probably visit Earl's and have a pint of Albino Rhino pale. I think they sell glassware with the logo (a rhino wearing sunglasses). As far as tak...

IMHO, the only parts of Mississauga that could support an independent brewpub would be Port Credit or Streetsville (since they have that "community" feel).

As for the rest of 905, maybe a brewpub chain. You can start by replacing that Firkin pub across the street from my office.
