Well, I did attend again, tonight, and I'm glad I did. On Ralph's suggestion I tasted and was wowed by the F&M Double Red, the Tobacco Road of Church Key and the strong Empire Common from Stratford. Fine flavors and while as I said earlier Fuller's ESB was great, the Double Red was as good if no...

It's true Sid, and I was aware some of the beers I mentioned were tap not cask beers. But hey they were all served together and it seemed fair to mention those I liked in whatever group. It so happened too that the Quebec group was one of the first I tried so it limited what I could have after. I wi...

Just got back from this afternoon's session. The weather was picture perfect and so were (many of the) beers. I must say on this occasion I preferred the guest beers. The Black IPA, Saison, Rigor Mortis abt (Abbey Style circa 10% ABV) and Peche Mortel Stout were outstanding. Dieu de Ciel and Hopfens...

No, I meant it in a general sense, that the product will be available soon in England and perhaps elsewhere.

Obviously different opinions. As a fan of some fairly intense and forceful beer styles, I can still admire a Cobra for being well-brewed and having a good taste even while not strongly assertive. A taxonomy for beers I sometimes use: - assertive beers that aren't brewed correctly IMO - assertive bre...

Czechvar Draft

I had this recently at Abbott On the Hill and cannot recommend it enough. It may be, with the sticke altbier I had in Baltimore specially imported a few years ago, the best imported draft beer I've ever had from anywhere, period. It is fragrant, soft, and very fresh-tasting, the barley comes across ...

Gee I didn't get thinness in the body, but this may be the fact of drinking it at near-room temperature, where the small amount of CO2 still shows itself well. I think the characteristic smell and taste of some porter is to some degree a fermented sauce-like taste. I think it must come from aging pa...

I saw the adjunct list too, but adjunct of itself is not fatal to a good beer. This beer just has the round, true taste of beer!

I wonder how they get the Worcestershire sauce-like flavour. Sleeman's Porter has it too but in a milder way. In the 1970's, I recall Guiness Extra Stout being similar: not the Labatt-brewed one but the one exported in nip bottles from Ireland. I assume this is a brett-type influence (real or simula...

Cobra

This is one of those lagers with an Asian background (I believe) but which is brewed in England. The labelling makes no express references to India and states clearly it is brewed in London. There is some imagery on it (a design or a foreign language, I couldn't tell) which suggests some connection ...

Agreed, Jess. I had one recently in Cincinnati and thought it was excellent and essentially the same as always. The real surprise was the Stock Ale, which for the first time in my experience had a genuine ale flavour with English markers to boot. In the past this beer, while never bad, seemed off-ki...
