Re: Barncat Artisan Ales, Cambridge
Without any homerism, Pulp is the best Canadian made IPA, of any style, that I've had. It's also in my top 5 all time IPA's, right up there with Trillium, Tree House and Grimm. Crazy great job, Matt and Jeremy!

Re: 2016 in review
Yeah, 2015 and 2016 were big years for new breweries in Ontario. Yep, most of them were mediocre. A couple of things about it interest me. 1. That every little town having a brewery is/isn't sustainable, with the (correct) implicit assumption that most are mediocre. I'm not sure that this isn't sust...

Re: Redline Brewhouse - Barrie, ON
Stopped in for diner and a flight tonight. They are doing everything right, in my mind. Improving every time I try them. The Rainbow in the Dark is the juiciest Rye IPA I've had since early, no longer the same, versions of Cameron's Rye PA (far jucier, actually). The Pistoles at Dawn Latte Stout and...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
Most of the the DMS and diacetyl issues I perceived were in 2014 and early 2015. I can't say I've noticed any off flavors in anything produced in 2016. I though I got faint DMS off of only 2 batches of Monogamy (can't remember exactly which ones). However, I do recall the diacetyl issues being much ...

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
I know we'll disagree... but, yeah, I think I'd be generous to say I liked even 25% of what I've had (and that's liked, I've never loved anything if I can recall). I WANT to like them... but, honestly, I think their offerings have been in inline with what I'd expect from a small startup brewpub or ...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS
Very pleasantly surprised to find Michel Jodoin Cidre Rose at a LCBO in Ancaster today. LCBO# 481473 | 750 mL bottle. Fantastic price on these. And a really great cidery. Any ine know if there are plans to bring in any more product?

Re: CRAFT Beer Market - Toronto
We can either be realistic about what change might happen, or we can throw our hands up in the air and be nihilistic about it. I don't think any beer geek in Ontario will be an apologist about our shitty system, but maybe there's hope. I probably would have been a dismissive a-hole 10 years ago if s...

Re: CRAFT Beer Market - Toronto
It's been a few years since I've bern to the Calgary location, but I don't have much of an itch to revisit. A super loud party atmosphere attracts a certain clientele, lets say. Staff were hit or miss on level of general knowlege or even and what was currently available. Menues not up to date. Some ...

Re: Barncat Artisan Ales (a BT member!!) opening in Cambridge
their PA's and IPA's are ugly, murky milkshakes, Interesting perspective. To me, PAs/IPAs that look like theirs do are beautiful and would be a 5/5 as far as appearance goes. Don't get me wrong, that's exactly how I wan't my hoppy beers too....unfiltered and dry hopped to hell and back. I'm just sa...

Re: Barncat Artisan Ales (a BT member!!) opening in Cambridge
I've had friends grab me a couple growlers in the past, but I made it out myself for the first time this Friday. Really impressed with everything I had. Yep, for sure, their PA's and IPA's are ugly, murky milkshakes, but the importance of that is philosophical. Concentrated hop flavor and explosive ...

Lab Series 3: Uncommon Element (Brett PA) is in 375 ml bottles at the brewery.
Haven't cracked one yet, but the label says hopped with Hallertau Blanc (neat-o!) and Mosaic.

Re: Anyone growing hops?
this is what a 3rd year tap root looks like. i had to move it because some asshole cut it down last year (accidentally or on purpose, i don't know). https://www.instagram.com/p/BDd-5Quol9D/ Holy crap, that's huge. And shitty. Hopefully you were able to salvage a few rhizomes to, unfortunately, star...

Re: Anyone growing hops?
Right on. Thanks! That's what I figured, but my experience growing is pretty limited. Put some centenial in the ground summer, but didn't get any cones the first year. They survived the winter and are growing gangbusters right now. Didn't know if it was just the mild SW Ontario winter we had or if t...

Re: Anyone growing hops?
Does anyone have have any experience growing hops up in cottage country (Muskoka, Halliburton etc)?
My centennial seem to do well enough in Hamilton, but I was thinking about planting some rhizomes at the cottage. I'm just wondering if the winters are too harsh up there and I'd be wasting my time.

Re: Bellwoods Brewery
Barn Owl 3 was my least favorite of the 3 so far. I found it all peach and not much else. That said, I find Jelly King to be a phenomenal dry hopped sour. I also was lucky enough to try the new Grandma's Boy at the Bellwoods beer dinner at Brux House last week and it's going to blow peoples minds.
