I had never tried SI IPA until I started reading Bar Towel a few months ago. I did recently and couldn't see why anyone would think it holds a candle to any of the great hoppy beers out there. I guess I was too late to try it when it was at its best. I am glad that the infamous Perry has a new proje...

What was the selection of Canadian brew like? I remember being able to buy so many brands out there that were not available in the east... Obviously the entire line of Big Rock Alley Kat Yukon Granville Island Tin Whistle Maybe not a larger selection than Ontario but certainly a different bunch of b...

My wife picked one up for me to try. It certainly wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. I didn't quite know how to serve it without disturbing the sediment too much. I decanted the entire bottle and ended up with a few glasses of flat beer. The first two were OK but the rest weren't very good....

I don't think there is a perfect system out there but I know I sure liked the liquor and beer stores in Calgary when I lived there. Although the closest store does not always have the best selection there is probably something nearby that has what you want. Any of the better stores are willing to br...

Brewers turning to distilling
http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=115606&st=0&#entry1567461 An interesting discussion I came across on Egullet. Although I prefer beer to spirits any day of the week, I would be interested to try gin made by Rogue. Craft brewing has elevated the quality of beer on the market. I a...

Thanks for the suggestions. I was amazed by how long a bottle of beer will keep its fizz after opening. I left an open bottle in the fridge for three days and it still had a fair amount of sparkle. Some styles definitely taste better flat than others. I have enjoyed a couple of Headstrong pale ales ...

No or low fizz beer
Due to recent gastric surgery I must avoid carbonated beverages. I can easily stay away from soda but I really miss beer. I have had a few cans of 'widget' beer, they go quite flat after a few minutes. I am wondering what other beers are out there that have little or no carbonation. Or beer that sti...

I am a big fan of the Pepperwood Pale Ale. It was quite disturbing as they were out for a few weeks but the taps are flowing again. The food there is pretty good indeed. I am not sure if you noticed the rather small sign stating that Pepperwood pints are on for $3.50 from 4-6 Sun - Fri and all appet...

The party was a great success but the beer did not live up to my expectations. The house brew wasn't available, whether they were just out or are not doing it anymore I was not able to determine. Several of the selections from the website both on tap and in bottles were not available either. It's no...

Crooked Cue in Mississauga
Our company Christmas party is tonight at the Crooked Cue. I have never been there before but am pretty excited to check it out. Although it is a long ways from home, I have decided to cab it after looking at the website. Quite a selection of brew for a pool hall. Most of the usual line up with a fe...

It doesn't quite seem right that most restaurants have lousy beer selections but that makes it all the more satisfying when you come across a place with a few good brews. I rarely go to particularly fancy places. I never really enjoy my meal with a bottle of some generic beer. I can't justify the ex...
