i drove by yesterday and it looked like there was still a decent amount of work that needed to be done to their front door.

they're supposed to have an Oxbow Brewery event this week, but seeing it's wednesday eve and no announcement...

totally random guess, but i'd think they're opening next week.

Thanks for the intel! Funny enough, I just noticed the oxbow guys instagraming about being the "featured brewery" today for the "opening night".

yeah. colour me surprised. it was a drive-by glance, but it looked like it needed some serious work.

That's cool....had some of those Oxbox beers at the brewery in Portland earlier in the summer. Overall pretty good stuff!

2 different bars, so 2 different threads, i'd think.
Tonight's the opening

Agreed - and it follows the precedent set by the two different Bar Hop threads. Is tonight's soft launch at Birreria one night only?

think they were sort of opened to some last night.
tonight's a special event.
tuesday's the opening.

no food tonight except for (excellent) fried chicken from next door.

the space: honestly, and no hyperbole, the Moranas knocked this one out of the fucking park. it has all of the touches that you'd want. i want to go and wander through and find all the little things that are in there that make it a gorgeous space.
the best part? the hall in front of the bathrooms. just so cool and beautiful.

nice back patio with communal seating and a mural.
lots of taps (including Mamouche tonight). A to Z.
looks like they've gone back to table service.

if C'est What's your thing, then Birreria Volo likely isn't. it oozes coolness and looks like no other Toronto bar. it's captured a darkness and fun that you'd see in a european wine bar.
the negative? if it becomes a hot neighbourhood bar (and, to be honest, i can't see non-beer crowds flooding it), the winter seating is pretty limited. so it may be an exclusive space.

Thanks for the update. I so wanted to go last night to take a look, but was exhausted from work. Gotta go next week!

the Oxbow beer were pretty nice. they weren't cheap (understandably so) and having around 5 on tap, in backwards Ontario, was pretty great.

I also stopped by last night. Although the Oxbow beers weren't cheap, I really liked that the option of ordering 3 or 6 oz. pours of the bottled beers. It can e tough to commit to a whole 500 or 750 mL bottle when aren't able to share it among a group. It also makes it easier to try a number of different brews. I know that Birrerria is supposed to be more focused on exclusive bottles. I hope the option of ordering smaller pours from their bottled offerings remains, though obviously there are concerns with spoilage and waste with this approach.
