I thought I'd resurrect this ancient thread as I saw through BlogTO that the Academy closed up at the end of the year:

http://www.sphericalarts.com/
Due to circumstances beyond our control,
sadly the Academy had to close its doors
for the last time, December 31 ,2012.

We leave with many fond memories of the good times
that were enjoyed over the last 21 years by both patrons
and staff.

Thank You

The Academy of Spherical Arts
Kind of sad, it was the original host venue for the Golden Tap Awards and had its moment in the beer sunshine many years ago through the original Rogue private order.

Not too surprising as it didn't seem terribly busy much anymore and the rents around there have surely skyrocketed with Liberty Village's boom.

True that, and it was a beautiful room. Living in the area though, I got somewhat frustrated at the private party\open to the public vibe the place had, but it would be nice if a decent beer destination became of it. Dream on, I know...

I wonder if they are tearing down the building? Renoing it?

I barely heard of this place for years. I was there in '06 for a xmas party, it was nice at the time.

A lot has changed in TO's beer scene even in six years, that 2004 list looks positively ancient and no IPAs to be found on it. Those must have been the days we were still lamenting the loss of (pre-Heritage) Scotch Irish Sergeant Majors. And we were pining for ANY decent LCBO seasonals as these were seriously dwindling. Yay capitalism.

I have so many fond memories of this place. I was just seriously getting into beer around 2000 and was given the beer program at the Academy. Took off all the corporate taps and replaced them with local ones. Doing the Bartowl Awards with Cass. Lots of private order bottles. Three successful beer dinners which the first one was a huge success (cause if it wasn't my job was on the line).
I can't believe how long its been.
Good times,
Colin.

Wow, I just suggested to someone last week that we go check it out....too late now! A new, nice beer place there would be great.
