R.I.P. Don Younger

Post by Steve Beaumont »

I know there are at least a few on this board who have experienced the hospitality of the Horse Brass Pub in Portland, Oregon. Its owner, Don Younger, one of the earliest and truly great champions of good beer in the Pacific Northwest, and a hell of a nice guy besides, died early this morning. He will be greatly missed.

Beer Advocate had his pic on the cover of their mag a while ago, and there was a lot of noise about "is this the image of craft you want to present?".

Well, I could go on about not judging a book by its cover... but here's a great online article about the man:

Sadly, the craft beer revolution has lost a grandfather.

Ironic, since the idea behind craft beer has always been substance over style. And while Don may not have had a ton of the latter -- save for his own inimitable style -- be had bucketloads of the former.

I wholeheartedly agree.

And I like the next cover!
