Amsterdam and Bruges

Post by GreatCop »

Headed off on another mini-Eurotrip this coming May. Current plan stands at 3 nights in Amsterdam and another night in Bruges (before heading elsewhere).

Already have a few Belgian beverages on my list to try to squeeze in my day there, but are there any must-sees or must-drinks you guys and guyettes can suggest?

Classic "brown pub" Had a beer or two here. Nothing amazing but some sort of obscure Belgian brews. Nice small plates to snack on. Cheque was a handwritten note on a slip of paper!

Had a lovely "price fix" dinner here, nice flemish stew. pretty solid beer list.
Bier Tempel bottle shop is practically next door.

Free cheese with the house tripel! Nice little spot.

Can definitely second the t'bruges beertje reccomendation, almost all the brown pubs we went to in Amsterdam offered Chimay or La Trappe products at minimum so your not likely to lack for a good drink

Thanks a bunch! Definitely making note of these places.
Just found a place in Amsterdam with Witkap Stimulo/Singel with a few St. Bernardus and Rocheforts, so that's going to the top of the list.....

My #1 recommendation in Belgium is De Heeren Van Liedekerke outside of Brussels if that fits into your plans at all.

Amsterdam's best beer destination In de Wildeman now has a website listing their beers. Here is the Dutch bottle list:

http://www.indewildeman.nl/index.php?doc=bieren&cat=1

Current draught offerings on the right side:

Cafe Belgique is fine too but it's so small that getting a seat can be difficult:

Just came across that website last night, immediately became a must in our itinerary.
Hopefully we can also find a place that sells Floris Kriek, my wife's favourite beer because it tastes like cherry Jolly Ranchers (seriously, it tastes EXACTLY like them)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but this is the only one with Amsterdam. I know Het Arendsnest (which I love) for draft and De Bierkoning for a bottle shop. Any other particular recommendations for Amsterdam? De Molen looks a bit tough to get to.

I'll second Philip1's recommendation above for In de Wildeman. Great selection of Dutch and Belgian beers.

You've already noted t'Arendnest which I agree is great spot. Fantastic rotating tap line up of primarily Dutch beers and a really quaint spot.

A relatively new spot (or at least new in July 2012 when I was last there) is Beer Temple, which specializes in American craft. I noticed a sign for it in the washroom of another bar and stopped by just to check it out but I didn't get anything because I was done for the night and was more interested in experimenting with Dutch beers. May be worth a look if you've got the time and inclination:

Butchers Tears is a great little brewery worth visiting too.
