Southern Tier/Lakewood Trip?

Post by Gedge »

Anyone visited the Southern Tier brewery/pub (Empty Pint)? Is it worth going? The Empty Pint closes early (8 p.m.). Is there much else in the area to make it worth the drive and staying overnight?

I haven't been, but it probably depends what you're looking for. My guess is that it's beautiful country but laid back/rural. You'll have better luck looking for stuff to do in Jamestown (5 miles from Lakewood, where Southern Tier is located) than in Lakewood itself.

Sorry to dredge up this decrepit thread, but I, too, am heading to the Lakewood/Jamestown district this weekend, and am wondering if anyone has any good tips on pubs or general sightseeing (other than Southern Tier, which is obviously on the menu).

If you can tolerate baseball, go to Russell Diethrick Park to see the Jamestown Jammers (http://jamestown.jammers.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t489). Too bad you've missed the last $1 Bud night of the season.

I think there's a Lucille Ball museum in Jamestown as well.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm actually a baseball fanatic, and now I'm looking forward to seeing the Jammers play Sat. night. I think we're going to try to check out Lily Dale as well, that spiritualist community. Should be cool.

Deleted new post on Jamestown, NY and dredged up this one, as it essentially covers the same area I am interested in.

Any recommendations on a grocery store with a decent beer selection in the Jamestown area?

I don't know if their selection will be as good as those in the Buffalo area, but there is a Wegmans in Jamestown. At the very least they'll probably stock Great Lakes, Ommegang, Southern Tier, Sierra Nevada, etc.

Thanks rudolf, plan is set, lunch/beer pick-up at Southern Tier, over to Wegman's in Jamestown for groceries and more beer, then on down to Allegheny National Forest....

Stopped in at Southern Tier on my way down to PA last night. Major expansion underway. Cool spot, great vibe on the patio. Tried Harvest Ale, 2XIPA and 2012 Pumking. Pulled Pork is okay...more sweet than tangy...

Tripling output...

So it looks as if I'm finally going to be in the Lakewood area (only 4 years after starting this thread!).

Any suggestions on stuff to do in the area? Places to stay that aren't in Buffalo?
