..I'm thinking Slows Bar BQ for dinner one night, Michael Symon's Roast the other. Any other recommended stops in the downtown core?

Try Jacoby's Biergarten, on Brush St, 5 min from the Renaissance Centre and Greektown. ( Safe )
German / European with a nice of mix of U.S. Micro
Nice draft selection (20 oz ) and bottle selection. Great food

If you are flying, Online restaurant has Bells Two Hearted as well as some other good stuff.

Thanks. Looks like it's a 5 min. cab ride from the hotel, I'll check it out.

I like Slow's, and Merchant's Fine Wine is a good bottleshop nearby (if you're driving):

If you head north, Kuhnhenn, Dragonmead, Cloverleaf & Holiday Market are all relatively close.

I liked Ann Arbor a lot, but that's getting a little out of the way.

That said, it's been almost 5 years since I've been to Michigan (that was a good part about living in London).

I will also be in Detroit around mid-April. At this point I'm looking to do Slow's, Roast, Grand Trunk, and the two brewpubs (Brewing Co. & Motor City). Might head up to Royal Oak and Warren for a bottle run and a visit to Kuhnhenn. If I have time I'll stop by Jacoby's, based on hopdevil's recommendation.

Grand Trunk is definitely a good spot. Lots of local drafts. Jacoby's didn't do much for me, but they pour a large (and cheap) bourbon. Wish I had spent more time at Slow's. Just amazing.

According to google, Grand Trunk is a 9 min. walk from my hotel, so I'll be sure to pop in. Getting into town around 10 tonight, will be dropping bags and heading straight over to Slows...hope by that time there won't be a wait for a table...

I'm heading to Detroit next Thursday. Plan is Slow's for lunch once I cross the border, head to Merchant's, then going to a Founders beer dinner at Shark Club in Howell (both CBS and KBS on tap!). Is there anywhere else on that general route I should hit?

Ended up going to Grand Trunk, Slows Bar BQ and a few other less noteworthy establishments.

Food: Reuben

Slows Bar BQ:
This has to be one of the best all around beer/food places I've ever been to. Great food, lot's of great local craft beer, great atmosphere.

-Big Sky Moose Drool
-Bells Hopslam x 2 (Wow)
-New Holland Dragon's Milk Stout (cask)
Food: Back ribs, pulled pork, mac & cheese and green beans

Beers at other places and at Leafs/Red Wing game:
-Sam Adams Cherry Wheat
-Leinenkugels Original
-Atwater Dirty Blonde

A great weekend despite the Leafs loss.
