east coast Canaduh trip

Post by aser »

I'll be on a long ass road trip out to the east coast of Canada for a week. What local beers would you say are worth hauling back? Do the liquor stores out there allow you to break 6 packs into singles like lcbo?

Other than releases available via lcbo (Garrison imperial ipa/hop yard, propeller esb), I haven't tried anything else.

Propeller, Garrison, Picaroons, Granite, Pumphouse......what else should I check oot? Food tips welcome too, we're staying in Digby but will make a day trip to Halifax. Will drive through Fredricton & Moncton also.

Just came back from NB/PEI. Ate at the Barnyard (Pump House brewing) for BBQ food in Moncton. Stopped at Big Tide in Saint John (beer was just okay).

Most of those breweries you listed are good options. In Halifax I recommend trying to hit Rogue's Roost and/or Hart & Thistle.

There are a couple of decent pubs in Fredericton listed in the Ratebeer places section.

The Hart and Thistle is a must for any beer lover. There is always something amazing to try. If you are in the Wolfville area drop by Sea Level Brewing. Randy Lawrence is a nice guy brewing good beer.

Re: Hart and Thistle: I haven't really liked the food I've had there the last few times I went. But they do brew their own beers and those have been good. Last time I was there they had two very hoppy beers, which were both quite good, if a bit too hoppy for me.

I second Rogue's Roost, very much enjoyed my evening there.

Ended up at Hart & Thistle, the food there was meh overall, but the beer way exceeded my expectations.

They had two of their own brews available, a saison and an APA. Both were excellent, with the apa slightly better, more hoppy than I expected, might as well have been an IPA. Can't remember the names, they use pretty wacky names for their beers.
