Your ideal LCBO spring release

Post by TJ »

Clearly the LCBO's 2010 Spring Release is no great shakes—some good, some okay, mostly meh. Which got me thinking, if someone who actually cared about beer was in charge at the LCBO, what might a really topnotch spring release have looked like?

So my question is, realistically, what's your list of ten or twelve beers that the LCBO could have brought in that would have satisfied your typical beer geek and sold well to the typical curious Ontario beer drinker.

Again, try to be realistic and list beers that actually stand a chance of being carried by the LCBO.

How's this? Pretty realistic; all breweries that have, or did have, a relationship with the LC. I think. Mostly. Fairly seasonal. Nothing crazy.

Weltenburger Kloster Asam Bock
Victory St. Boisterous Hellerbock
Rogue Double Dead Guy
Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock
Weihenstephaner Korbinian
Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefeweizen
Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale
Black Oak Ten Bitter Years
Chouffe Houblon Dobbelen IPA Tripel

I think Chimay Blanc might have hip-checked Westmalle Tripel to the sideboards, in the LC's overall plan. Notice the alarming lack of style redundancy that is so alarming?

Speaking of which, for some reason my local is fully stocked in these right now. Last year's bb date (2011), I believe. I drinkvined it, and there are quite a few around! Not sure where they came from, but I'm not complaining.

Forget that one, I'm making sure none cross the border :)

BTW guys, if anyone goes to the St-Jerome brewery, they are selling some oak aged versions of their beers in regular but marked bottles these days.

I would really appreciate:

- Dogfish 90 mins, or imperial pilsner
- Victory Golden Monkey
- Dupont's Forest
- Schofferhoffer hefeweizen
- Celebrator Doppelbock
- Khunhenn raspberry eisbock
- Stoudt's Maibock
- Sierra Nevada Porter

I haven't had it, but I recently really enjoyed their fest (which would be a great fall seasonal). If the rest of their lagers are that good, I'd love to try them.

Speaking of lagers, Les Trois Mousquetaires do some nice stuff as well.
