Beau's has been pretty lame for a long time now. Overpriced, underwhelming.
agreed. London Fog is so great they had to put it in 2 packs in a row lol so lazy

I think Beau's had a surprising little hit with the unique and very likeable Kissmeyer Nordic Pale Ale. Not sure it really took off.

I agree, that was a nice beer. Beau's gets crapped on a lot for whatever reason, but I find they consistently put out solid and well made examples of a variety of styles. They're also not afraid to experiment in ways that aren't just "let's add 500 lbs of fruit puree to this beer". Or "let's put this beer into a bourbon barrel, no one's done that one before, right?"

I enjoyed Cavalier Bleu, a New Zealand IPA with Blueberry must but it was polarizing beer at $9 a bottle.. it was released 2 Spring seasons ago? :o Beau's is a good brewery and I think the frustration is because we know they can do better.

I find since they've switched to cans their prices are more reasonable, plus they do a lot of classic Euro styles that I enjoy and are sometimes underrepresented here (ESB, Marzen, Altbier, etc). It seems they've shifted a lot of their more innovative/interesting stuff to Halcyon, which I've found have been really good. They're $8 bucks a bottle generally which isn't cheap, but seems in line with similar beers from other breweries. People will pay $4.50 for a can of pilsner from Bellwoods, so $8 for an organic barrel aged sour seems reasonable.

They certainly have some misses, but I guess I jumped to the defence since they seem to be disproportionately ragged on around here.

Which is strange considering you can go to any LCBO and get a Radeberger for $2.50.

Maybe it just bugs me that they seem to command so much shelf space at every LCBO. Or that their recently released Full Time IPA and even session IPA are more expensive than similar beers from other breweries and just not as good. Then a partnership with David's Tea? Da fuck?

How can that possibly be annoying, you only paid 10¢ deposit if a product size is under 630ml. IJS

$4.50 could be a bit much though I will gladly pay an extra buck over the Radeberger to drink Godspeed's Svetly 12º, Kölsch or Dortmunder etc.($3.50)

Those GS are beautiful small-batch beers hand-tweaked by the brewer's sole preference, not by some random focus group or bunch of Dr. Oetker shareholders. These are real beers not designed for extended shelf life. I also think the current duo of fruited ales at Godspeed are comparable Ontario bargains at $4.50.

* Edit * I notice Bellwoods Paper Tiger cans are 473ml. Godspeed and Left Field are 355 ml. It's kinda close.

no other brewery uses a 600ml bottle, it's a potato format because it takes up twice the space.

just what I wanted for Christmas.. more Lug Tread! :)

LOL. Who could explain that - except that it's a marketing success for them. Same way the potato in Ireland was both a success and a disaster? You have to give Beau's due credit for nice-looking packaging, with the goofy tags and twine in the Lug Tread four-packs.

In terms of the contents, I personally can't get enough of Gokurosama Kölsch.

Also, I have found it really feasible to pick up branded Pint glassware at Value Village.

Why pay for gift packs when so many people discard the perfectly good new pint glass after a few uses?
I'm sipping my Kölsch and Weissbier from a very nice Robert Simpson pint glass. It's historic, pre-FM. Is Josh Rubin still around?

Value Village is a great place for glassware, I recommend it all the time :D The Christmas Gift Packs or Gift Packs in general seem to be a terrible value no matter how you look at them. take a look at the Whisky advent calendar

https://www.lcbo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/ ... TeNyk5agY8

$199?

the little bottles of Mateuse Rose, Baileys, Kraken, Glenmoargie Sampler, Jameson Caskmates Sampler, Advent Calendars, Beer Packs, etc are landmines in the store

That's fair, while I like Full Time and the session IPA, they should be in the low $3s, not pushing $4. They do command a lot of shelf space, but I've noticed a few of the bigger guys do as well. Muskoka and Nickel Brook in general have a huge presence at the LCBO I regularly visit.

I haven't tried the David's Tea beer yet, not sure I will since it doesn't appeal to me in general. Been enjoying Wag the Wolf though, that really is a tasty white IPA- a style I typically dislike.

Or Jever for $1.95. Bitburger too, there aren't a lot of regularly available (through LCBO) local pilsners that I would consider to be as good, and when you factor in the price it's a no brainer. Pilsner Urquell as well, still the yardstick for the style.
