they've rebranded and the bottles for the Hop Nouveau actually look sort of attractive and much more in keeping with a new generation of craft beers

at least it's got that

(and it doesn't look like a kid's grade 5 clipart computer project from 1996 like their Maple Leaf Lager)

Last year's was surprisingly good. This year? It's horrific!

DON'T quote me on this, but I think one of the beers is Nickel Brook's Bolshevik Bastard RIS. They tweeted awhile back showing off the new label for the "upcoming OCB pack". Might it be this one? We'll see. I could be totally wrong, but if that's the level of quality that's going to be in the pack, I'll buy a bunch.

I so much wanted to edit the drinkvine description of the beer on the new beers page to quote you on that. So tempted...

I can't imagine it wouldn't be... here's the pic/post:

Incidentally, this is the best any Nickel Brook label has looked. I love their beer (recently), but damn their labels/branding are horrendous. I hope they continue along this route.

I'll take your word for it based on the fact that I too enjoyed last year's, and it's Trafalgar.

In previous years this has been golden/harvest colour with a slight haziness due to being unfiltered. Two years ago it was infected but last year and three years ago it had fresh hop noses and flavours with a detectable malt backbone.

This year it has the colour and clarity of some sick guys cloudy urine. There is virtually no carbonation nor nose. The hops, or lack thereof, have a dirty grass taste. No malt profile to speak of. I guess I would say the dominant flavour is generic yeast... and dirt.

I don't buy Trafalgar as a matter of principle, but next time I want to torture someone it might be handy to have a bottle of this on hand

So it's 5.5cents/bottle cheaper to buy it in the 4 pack. I'll bet those 6 packs are likely to be discontinued shortly. The 24 pack price is great though - just under $2/bottle
