Seems the Achel Bruin is out pretty widely now...couple cases at each LCBO. I got them to get some out of the back for me at the Manulife Centre yesterday.
I had my first bottle of it...not as good as last time. None of the beautiful raisiny flavors I had the first time. I wonder if it needs more bottle aging time?

It was disgusting. Made your mouth blue like you'd just gave a smurf a bj. I still have one bottle.
Who the hell puts blue color in beer but a mediocre USA craft brewery. The LCBO would probably sell it if they knew, we haven't had a super-pointless novelty beer in some time.

Next up: Warnog - a Klingon Roggen Dunkel
http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/ma ... ingon-beer
Star Trek's warrior race the Klingons may be more famed for drinking the alarmingly red bloodwine in outer space, but on Earth at least, they have a new official booze of choice: Warnog, a beer with notes of clove, banana and caramel.
The Federation of Beer, a Canadian company who have an official partnership with the Star Trek franchise, has commissioned the 'Roggen Dunkel' style ale, to be brewed at the Tin Man Brewing Company in Indiana. It's their second themed beer, following their Vulcan Ale last year, an Irish Red chosen to match the red planet of Vulcan where Spock hails from.
Warnog "incorporates rye malt into a modern Dunkelweizen grain bill, creating a flavor profile that is both familiar and unique," the Federation explains in a statement. "Warnog's aroma is predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt.

I prefer it to the Blanche. Probably because it doesn't have the strong coriander note.Bytowner wrote:I wouldn't rush out for it. It's pretty darn dull.Jonah Hex wrote:BLONDE DE CHAMBLY

Kind of unfair to compare two vastly different styles, may as well throw the noire de chambly in the mix tooBlackRedGold wrote:I prefer it to the Blanche. But I do see how some people are put off by coriander. To me the Blanche is an extremely fine beer, the Blonde is a generic beer that doesn't stand out.

Ages great, I had a 2010 a month or two back and its drinking great right now. I've only one left and will likely drink it in the next month or two. I believe the Achel bottle date is 2 or 3 years from bottling.spinrsx wrote:anyone have any experience aging achel bruin? or any dubbel for that matter.. wondering how long this will hold up for

Westmalle Dubbel ages tremendously well, cannot speak for Achel Bruin 8 but if 'Holic says it's great at 3-4 years, I say go for it. Nobody really understands the 'expiry' dates anyway...spinrsx wrote:anyone have any experience aging achel bruin? or any dubbel for that matter.. wondering how long this will hold up for
