I opened a bottle the other day and thought it was fantastic. Lots of cherry notes from the Kriek. The only other time I had it was from an old bottle and I was underwhelmed. This stuff and the LCBO is much fresher and worth picking up if you like cherries and quads IMO.
Yep, beautiful beer to me. I love Belgian beers...but this is different than those Orval Al mentions...this is a quad blended with liefmans kriek. Not the same by any means to what rochefort or bernardus make. Wish unibroue could still get that kriek to make their old Quelque Chose beer.....
Name another Belgian quad that is blended with a kriek....then you can compare this to it.

I liked it. I know they call it a quad but I would rate it in a separate category because of the kriek blend. They say only 2% is used, but you can really feel it in there. I agree the quad characteristics on their own aren't too impressive in this beer but the cherry flavour adds a nice flavour dimension that I would not expect to like in a dark fruit dominated beer like a quad. I would be as likely to spend my $10 on this as I would on a Bernie, which I'm not too fond of. Rochefort is in a league of it's own , however.
Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad was a bit of a let down for me. It was nice, but not enough bourbon notes. However, my palate may have been compromised that evening.

Picked one up, but haven't cracked it yet. Sounds like I might enjoy it - at least when it comes to BBA stouts, I tend to prefer those where the bourbon is present but not overpowering. I hope the underlying quad can express itself in this beer.
How far apart is the Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad from Omnegang's Three Philosophers? It sounds like the same type of quad, with cherries added. Which is better. So far, I've had the three philosophers and I liked it quite a bit, but it didn't blow me away or anything.

Dieu Du Ciel! Aphrodite is showing back on the shelves. Picked up a case and should've checked the bottling date before bringing home as it's from August!
Can someone explain why the LCBO can't get fresh DDC beer on it's shelves? We have to contend with stuff that's 5 months old? Same thing happened when with the Moralite I ordered recently...from August as well which pretty much destroys anything good about that beer.
It shouldn't be an issue with that beer. I just drank one from 2014 about 3 weeks ago and it was excellent. Had one from last year a few nights later and the difference was negligible. Both great
Aphroditiaque is really only 'fresh' on tap at the DDC Rue Laurier brew pub with its massive aromas of vanilla and chocolate and perfect creamy texture. But smuggled back in freshly bottled form (Provigo has good pricing) it is still excellent. An utterly exceptional beer, I will buy some of the August (LOL!) bottling because so much respect for it.

I'll second/third this. Picked up a 4-pack of the batch that showed up a few weeks ago (similarly "old" I recall), and it was excellent. Still better than any other stout you can readily pick up in the LCBO.
