cratez wrote:Huh. The comments here don't seem to align with the RB reviews, which are very high. Also, from what I gather the Delicious isn't a "gluten-free" beer per se but rather a regular IPA that happens to be low gluten/gluten reduced. To my mind Stone releasing a new-ish IPA made with a rarely-used hop in Ontario's highly protected beer market is big news, but these comments don't exactly make me want to seek it out.
I would take the reviews on here with a grain of salt.
I'd take the reviews here over RB. IMO, BA is a bit more accurate and more selective with high grades than RB.
i don't get people using ratebeer. it's review/rating system is skewed too positively. very odd.
the reviews on BT? "every Ontario beer is amazing! except _____________. Too expensive!"
Stone decided on an IPA using two then fairly new hop varietals, Lemondrop and El Dorado, which they loved for their ultra-bright citrus qualities. Batches kept coming out cloudy so they called White Labs who gave them an enzyme to help clarify the beer. It also turned out to eat most the gluten. Delicious always comes in at under 10ppm, typically around 5ppm. We know people with gluten-intolerance that drink it regularly with no issues. I had no idea it was gluten free when I first had it - it's made from barley malt and tastes like it. Rated 95 overall on RB, 88 on BA, and 3.82 on Untappd.
If you're interested, hear more from the brewmaster and White Labs themselves:
Regarding the terminology, they speak about it a little in the link above, but specific to us here...
From what I've been told the nomenclature differs between Canada and the US. In the US, it is illegal to call anything that once contained gluten "gluten-free" because technically there may still be miniature amounts. They are obliged to use the term "gluten reduced". Here in Canada, our officials felt that "gluten reduced" was too vague, so they insist that only foods with under 20ppm can be advertised and must use the term "gluten free". Hence, Stone advertises Delicious as "gluten free" in Canada, "gluten reduced" in the US (bear in mind there is always the chance of contamination in tap lines, especially if establishments don't clean them properly or often enough).
For those wanting to try it, we're running pretty low on kegs at the moment but have a fresh batch arriving early April. We may also see 6-pack bottles at the LCBO later in the spring.

Happened to see this today. I don't think it has been mentioned....probably not a lot of widespread interest. I think I've tried gluten-free beers only a couple times in the past. Didn't really care for them....but I suppose if I had an intolerance to gluten, I might give them a real try. Ingredient list in this includes millet, corn, and demerara sugar.
Hey all! First post here. Really happy I found the site a couple weeks ago. Had no idea a resource like this existed.
Was just wondering if anyone had found/seen the Lindeman's Cuvee Renee at any of the LCBOs yet? It was listed as part of their spring craft beer releases, but I've yet to spot it.
FYI, the Ossington/Dundas LC has Brooklyn Ace (delicious), Cheval Blanc, the Lupulus and two different Lagunitas IPAs in stock now for those interested.

Had this and Beau's Patio Saison a few months ago and gotta say I wasn't a fan of the Mango Saison. The Patio Saison was fantastic however.
Agreed. Won't be paying 8 bucks for this but would gladly dish it out for Patio. Matt's Sleepytime Stout was great as well, would love to see it get an individual release.
