Are new, no? What's in the Stone Hammer Sampler? I don't recall seeing much in the media (i.e. Mom and Hops and Canadian Beer News) about it.
It was to hit the shelves in December, but was held up at the lab because they determined that because our Light says "Light" it must also say 4% (or under). Ours is, and says, 4.2%. What makes this ridiculous is the fact that our Light is already in the LCBO in a 6 pack, which was approved last year. Now we have to change the box and label to 4% for all future orders.
I used to sell beer. Now I don't.

Yup. In order to call your beer "light" it must be 4% or under. So we have to either not call it Light, or change the label & box to say 4%. Since the LCBO allows a 0.5% variance from label to product then we don't have to change the beer, just the box/label.TheSevenDuffs wrote:Despite the fact that the beer is actually 4.2%???MatttthewGeorge wrote:. Would they accept the beer being call an "Imperial Light Ale" at 4.2%?MatttthewGeorge wrote:Yup. In order to call your beer "light" it must be 4% or under. Ha! Well it's a lager, so they might have a problem with that. But then again, they don't have a problem with Prison Break Pilsner or Trailhead Lager, so...groulxsome wrote:Would they accept the beer being call an "Imperial Light Ale" at 4.2%?MatttthewGeorge wrote:Yup. That is some of the most asinine bureaucratic bullshit I have ever heard.

I'm not sure what to tell you, except that knowingly mislabelling something is lying.midlife crisis wrote:It's not a lie. They are well within the 0.5% variance. But asinine bureaucratic bullshit? Yeah.
I understand that brewing (without an essentially unlimited budget) is an inexact science, but the variance is there to give lee-way to those breweries who don't have the LCBOs resources.
In this case, the small guy is absorbing the cost of repacking the beer, just so that the LCBO can sell some false idea of what the word 'light' means. Horseshit.

I thought 3.8% was a session lager, 4% a light lager, and 4.2% an imperial light lager. It's not that complicated, can't breweries just standardized?

Why do they carry 6% Bud Light Platinum on their shelves then?MatttthewGeorge wrote:Yup. In order to call your beer "light" it must be 4% or under.
