I'm eagerly awaiting for KB to reach Barrie. Until then I have stocked up on BB.

Rochefort 10 back at the LCBO. I grabbed a case, the clerk opens it up, scans the same bottle 4 times (assuming it's the same as 4 six packs), puts it back in, closes the case, and asks for $16.40+tax for the case...I speak up saying that's not right it's 24 bottles.

If only I weren't an honest man. Damn you morals!

Is cellaring beer hoarding? I've put the entire box in the long-term cellar not to be touched for 2+ years.

I would say that depends on the quantity available at that particular lcbo.

Purchasing a case of Rochefort 10 is hoarding? Hmm..It's great value, it has decent distribution (non-TO centric), and it's a general list item. I can sit and put my feet up knowing I have a case to enjoy over several years while you're scrambling to find lone bottles left over after it's been delisted.

Buying a case of beer you like isn't hoarding. In my view if you're buying it with the intention of drinking it yourself, you're not really hoarding.

Raises a good question, though slightly OT: is now the time (say at Christmas) to crack the Westy's that were released in the LCBO frenzy a couple of years ago? Can that really be three years ago already? I have no experience in this matter.

I think predicting how a beer like that will mature is difficult. Even in my stash, I find they vary from bottle to bottle, most likely because I have some from a few different sources, not just the LCBO release. When they taste best I think is a personal taste too. I think I liked them better when they were fresher, maybe 6 months or a year of age on them, plus however long it took 'em to get to the BO. My advice is always to just have one or two a year, so you can see how they change for yourself. There's no wrong time to drink a Westy.

Thanks. I did crack one more or less immediately after purchase (in the LCBO frenzy). Rather unimpressed. Have kind of forgotten about them in the back of the cellar since. I will definitely crack one or more this winter. Have a few Rochefort 10 that have a couple years on them now, too, so will be a fun comparison.

I've been meaning to do an aged quad tasting to clean out some space in my cellar.

Allagash 4 (2013)
Chimay Blue (2012)
Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw (2013)
St. Bernadus 12 (2013)
Rochefort 10 (2012)
Unibroue 17 (2012)
Westvletern 12 (2012)

Should be fun. One of these days.

For all that I slag the LCBO, I got all those bottles but one there. Sometimes they don't fuck up.

Yeah, pretty sure I have all of those too, except for Allagash (the "one").
