sheesh, didn't this used to be 10.95 a few years ago?
This is probably my favourite local beer available at LCBO but it's hard to justify buying more than one at that price.

Between this price increase and no BOYD this year, it makes buying the max allotment of Double Tempest this weekend an easy decision.

It's $12 and the allotment is 6 bottles per person.

I guess Canadian Beer News isn't the most trusted source in "Canadian beer news" after all. Thanks for pointing the actual price. $12 seemed like a steal.

Double Tempest is in a 500ml too, right? Kentucky Bastard is in a 750ml.

Full disclosure, in case you didn't know, I work for Nickel Brook. Last year KB was $14.95. The reason for the large price increase on Bolshevik Bastard from the 4-pack to the can, and the increase on KB from a few years ago till now, is that Nickel Brook literally wasn't making any money from these beers. We recently hired a CFO who has gone through all our pricing and found we were losing our shirt on some beers. It totally sucks that the prices have to go up, but we cannot sell beers at cost, even if it means some people will buy less or not at all. This is not an attempt to gouge customers, but to make sure Nickel Brook can cover it's costs, make a bit of profit and continue to be successful for years to come. I hope that explains the price increases to at least a bit of satisfaction. Cheers.

If NB is taking suggestions, Id rather a smaller format for KB. 12oz would be great, even 500ml would be cool. The 750ml format is what prevents me from buying more of this beer.

NB has been making use of the 375ml bottle a lot more lately, so it would be nice if we could see some of the bigger beers like KB show up in that format as well.

We are looking at both the 500ml and 375ml solutions right now. But we've just stated to have that conversation, so for this year we're in the big bottles. Hopefully by next winter we'll have a new format, as I agree, 750ml is expensive and (almost, lol) too much for one person.

As I pulled out a bunch of beers I bought at the LC over the past year, I vowed that I will never buy a 650/750ml from the LC again. It's too much for one, and considering most people can buy it, it's pointless for a share.

Question about the Cafe del Bastardo released last year. I did not detect much bourbon in that beer. Were the barrels 3rd use barrels (i.e. 1st bourbon, 2nd beer, 3rd beer)?

Also, what is the deal with that golden sour ale that has been in barrels for three years?!? What are the plans for that?!?

Cafe del is the same beer as Kentucky, just with a bag(s) of coffee beans added to the barrel a couple of months before release. (ie if no coffee added it would be regular Kentucky). So any lack of bourbon would only be because of the coffee overpowering it for you.

As for the golden ale (and others we have, Flanders red, for instance), they'll be released when ready. The brewers were sampling them a couple months back but said they need more time. But I feel ya, drives me crazy just looking at them and thinking about how they could be in my belly, lol
