Kind of disappointing that this one is aged in bourbon barrels. There's no shortage of bourbon barrel-aged imperial stouts available in North America; I was hoping maybe this one used scotch barrels.

Absolutely agree - far too few beers doing Scotch. Would have jumped all over a peat monster.

Gold is chemically inert and has no taste. Ageing beer on gold flakes / gold leaf is purely a gimmick & 100% of the gold they used might even be recovered if they were able, or at least certainly it won't end up in the beer.

At least they aren't pricing at $20 per bottle to cover the trifling production cost of a few mg of gold (24k gold costs about 4 cents a milligram, so there's very little value of metal in an entire bottle of Goldschlager, just over four bucks worth.)

I picked up the Weihenstephaner VITUS (great beer!)

and the Boulevard Smokestack Series: Funkier Pumpkin which I expect to be an interesting mashup of spicy and sour and bretty. It's only moderately well-received so my expectations are not exceedingly high despite the over-$15 price (it won't be Infinity Mirror which is about ten bucks.)

I also had a Vitus last night, and it was indeed great (probably news to no one).

Please report back on the Funky Pumpkin, I love Boulevard beers generally, and it seems to be available online by the bottle.
