Westy 12 release: mid December
ErkLR wrote:Huh, I drove by Masonville at 9:30 and it seemed to me the lineup was already too long. My "give a fuck" had dried up and I really didn't feel like getting out of the car to be told I was too late. Guess that's the second day in a row I drove by a store when I could have got some LOL.hopdicct wrote: The London situation wasn't too bad. I showed up at 7:30am for the 10am opening and was #9 in line. Was told there were 79 cases! By 9:45am there were only 60 people in line, 90+ by 10am.
I thought so too when I looked back at the line, but when they handed out the tickets at 9:43, there were only 59 given out. 76 by 9:56am, 80 by 9:58. (I was giving real time updates to a friend who just missed the cut) Sorry you turned around!

Personally, ever since I heard about this release, I intended two bottles for a (currently 9) quad/strong dark blind tasting, having had a Westy before and wanting to see what degree of appreciation was name recognition. Anyone wanna kick in the missing one we desire as the price to join - an Achel Extra Bruin bomber?
Currently on the menu are: St. Bernardus Abt 12, Rochefort 10, Chimay Blue, Unibroue 17, Three Philosophers, Dominus Vobiscum Hibernus, Cuvee Van de Kiezer Blauw, La Trappe Quadrupel... and, what is the other one, oh yeah, right: that W Belgian beer sold to raise funds to save a little girl named Abbey that brought so much goodwill to Ontario and kind generosity from Ontarians this week!
We could probably accept a couple Pannepot's as a donation to contribute too/instead of Achel...

It's a good, worthwhile example of the "Abt" style from a very good, very overlooked Trappist brewery. The Blonde is great as well -has lots of aromatc layers of fruits, candyshop aromas and hints of herbs like spearmint.KW1 wrote:Beer Bistro has it. Of course if belgian beers bore you, this one will too. It's not a really original style like Orval or (IMO) the Westmalle beers.

Younger has been number one for at least 3 or 4 months nowTheSevenDuffs wrote:All it took was ONE DAY for West to fall to #2 on BA. And that is notwithstanding a bunch of really high reviews (including 5/5).
Younger is now the highest rated beer in the world. I wonder if Heady Topper will pass Westy before the weekend is over.

Just got back to TO after 2 months out of country...missed the Westy by 2 days itseems.
C'est la vie. I would consider treating myself to sample each Westy out there, but only if I could also get a glass. Anyone know if Bellwoods, Volo, etc would do that?
Otherwise I shall wait...for a friend, Santa or a trip to Blegium to possibly try these out.

The Only is going to have some out as of Tuesday I hear. They got their hands on quite a bit of it apparently and will be putting it out periodically over the next 3 years (that's the plan, apparently). $30/bottle.Cass wrote:Bellwoods has Westy 12 available for $30 taxes included. For those who missed out it's going to be popping up around town (Burger Bar tweeted a large stack) so you'll be able to try it quite easily.
