new IPAs at LCBO

Post by GregClow »

I got an invite today to an upcoming media tasting event focussed on a bunch of IPAs that are available at the LCBO, including some that are due to be released soon.

The soon-to-arrive ones have been discussed in several different threads here on the forum, but I thought it would be useful to list them all in one place, as I'm sure there will be a lot of chatter about them, especially once they start hitting the shelves:

306993 - Green Flash West Coast IPA (not technically "new", but new stock coming in)
322016 - Samuel Adams Latidude 48 IPA
330845 - Elysian Immortal IPA
324210 - Centennial IPA
319798 - Philips Hop Circle IPA

Gonna be a hoppy spring...

Perhaps this explains the lack of IPAs in the spring release. Good news!

Picked up a 6 of the Propeller IPA today. Says it was packaged on Jan 8.
Isn't nearly as hop forward was I would like, but neither was the 6 of Boneshaker that I got the other day, so I'm starting to wonder if it's me!?
I used to sell beer. Now I don't.

I felt the same way about the Propeller.

The more important question is when it was bottled...

Might be you. My two most recent 6-packs of Boneshaker have been stellar.

Could be. But it could also be older. There's no discernable date code on Boneshaker (which drives me nuts).

The media event is on March 7th, so it's likely already in the warehouse. Just a question of when they release it to stores.

For those who might be interested, here are the other IPAs that are being served at the media tasting:

Amsterdam Boneshaker
Nickel Brook Headstock IPA
Smashbomb Atomic IPA
Muskoka Mad Tom IPA
Double Trouble Hops & Robbers IPA
Tree Brewing Hophead IPA

The press release also notes that there will be 19 IPAs available at the LCBO by the end of March. So 8 more on top of the 11 mentioned. Trying to remember what the rest might be, and I've come up with...

Propeller IPA
Muskoka Twice As Mad Tom
Duggans #9
Red Racer IPA
Southern Tier IPA
Wells IPA (yeah, it's a stretch, but that's what they call it...)

Can't come up with another 2, though. What am I missing?

Typical LCBO red tape. I bet these are at least 2-3 months old before anyone gets their hands on them. I will pass and wait for the second batch.

That's the way she goes. Sometimes she goes, sometimes it doesn't. She didn't go. That's the way she goes.

Is Grand River Curmudgeon coming back to the LCBO? There's 2 stores currently with some stock, but my guess is that its old.

The new batch is releasing soon, had it on cask at the Bent Elbow last Friday.
