Not sure I see the issue. Then again I like English bitters and it seems like there aren't as many as their used to be at the LCBO. I will give this one a try. As for the price, these are all 500 ml bottles and most 500ml bottles of English beers are usually in the 3-4 dollar range.
just finished this pack and I have to say it was quite good. Also, if you dont see value in 3L of beer for $19 im curious what beer do you buy regularly?

Aside from Hobgoblin, I haven't had any of these. But the last time I had a Marston's "very special" pedigree I nearly puked. And all 6 beers get pretty unexciting reviews. The average grade for the six is 79 at BA, ranging from a high of 85 to a low of 74. To be fair to that earlier poster, the 3L means nothing as very few people will love any of these beers ( for comparison, 3L of Aventinus will cost you just 55 cents more!) , unless they're fans of this style as you seem to be. Then again, you can spend the $19 and find out. My gut tells me most people probably won't even touch this. But hey, I might be wrong. For myself, I'd be more likely to spend the same $$ on St. Bernies mix pack or the Belgian Exclusives. This year (and the last) there is, indeed, a scarcity of quality gift packs.

I don't know. I feel like people who like English ales have been sort of under served over the last couple years at the LCBO. I could see a Marston's feature selling out.

When it comes to more simple beers like english ales I usually take their online ratings with a massive grain of salt, mostly because those styles don't seem to be as popular with raters as more extreme styles. I mean London Pride only has an 89 on BA and the top English Pale ale (Timothy Taylor's Landlord, which is an amazing beer) only has a 92. While if you go to double IPA's the entire top 22 all have 100 ratings.

Well said Kel.
I often try to "rate" beers based on the style. I enjoy many styles and sure....the big IPAs and Stouts get the glory, but a well done pilsner, ESB or anything else deserves praise too.

$7.65 this year. I think it's inched up again...
It seems to change yearly doesn't it, a few years ago wasn't it priced at about 8 dollars and then they dropped it back the following year? I think it was once around six dollars. Maybe the loonie was affecting that.

Always good, interesting beers though, value purchases.

Huh. I got a 2014 at Dundas & Dovercourt last week, so there's definitely some new ones in the system as well.
They probably found a couple of cases of last years stock the lost in the warehouse and decided to move it first at QQ. The LCBO are masters of warehouse management.
Saw the label for 2014 and grabbed a couple only to find they were 2013's. Not a bad beer, but I still have 4 from last year. Good ol' LCBO. I wonder if they bought up excess 2013's though. My bottles from last year were numbered in the 24,000's while the 2013's I picked up were 5000's. Odd.

There is no link yet because I've yet to write up the content. Sorry! I've shared that link on some of the discussions over there for anyone looking to add them to their watch list. Really pushing to have it up on the side ASAP. For now, I hope that link helps track what you're looking for down!
