EBGA Real Ale Festival 2014 - Edmonton, AB

Post by Torontoblue »

Hi All!

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous (EBGA) is putting on Alberta’s only dedicated cask ale festival again this year!

Below is the info from the EBGA website.

---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- --

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous is a Society founded on the principles of supporting local craft brewers and organically building the community surrounding them.

Naturally Conditioned Real Ale is as much alive as the brewers and beer geeks that seek it. Real Ale is unfiltered and unpasteurized method of preparing beer in stainless steel vessels called firkins.

The beer is as unique as the brewer that prepared it.

They are made with a special creation of malt, hops, water, and yeast.

This highlights a brewers skill and passion.

For these reasons and many others, EBGA Real Ale Festival aims to celebrate this aspect of the modern craft beer movement.

This year’s EBGA Real Ale Festival will feature breweries from across Western Canada - a complete list of breweries will be released via the EBGA monthly newsletter and social media as it evolves.

For those that are returning to this festival - you’ll notice some differences from previous years. First is the festival name. EBGA Real Ale Festival is ours; it is as unique as the brewers and their beer. The second difference is the venue - Wunderbar is still a great venue, but it is too small to house all of you passionate beer geeks! This years’ locale is Ritchie Community League Hall - a larger space which the EBGA thinks will suite this event perfectly. The third difference is that we are growing this festival - nearly 50% larger than last year! This is all due to the fantastic membership and following the EBGA has reached.

WHEN: 6 September 2014, 1pm - 10pm
WHERE: Ritchie Community League Hall (7727 98 street)

Even though the EBGA Real Ale Festival is growing, it is still the same price as last year. The $30 admission ticket gets you:

- 1 (one) custom EBGA Real Ale Festival 2014 glassware
- 1 (one) event entry wristband (to allow patrons to come and go over the course of the day-long festival)
- 1 (one) half-pint serving (10oz) of fresh real ale
- 1 (one) EBGA Real Ale Festival 2014 welcome packet (details TBD, but will include swag/give-aways)
- 1 (one) door prize draw ticket

Tickets to EBGA Real Ale Festival 2014 can be purchased here

*** Tickets will go-live 18 April 2014, 12pm MDT ***

Additional samples of these one-off real ales will be sold at the same rate as previous years:

1/2 pint (10oz) of Real Ale = $3.00

Full pint (20oz) of Real Ale = $6.00

Patrons should note that ALL of the firkins will be tapped at the beginning of the EBGA Real Ale Festival and pour until the firkins run dry! Availability will be on a first-come, first-served, first-enjoyed basis!

As with last year, Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous will be asking each patron to vote for their favourite real ale from the festival. A plaque will be presented to the winning brewer.

For those of you who are Untappd or Twitter users, tag posts about this year's EBGA Real Ale Festival using the following hashtag:

#EBGARAF2014

One randomly selected user from Untappd and one from Twitter will be selected to each receive a prize pack from the EBGA and event sponsors during the event (the winning post will have to be made during the festival on 6 September 2014 featuring one of the unique real ales being poured).

Breweries confirmed for the event are:

- Alley Kat Brewing Company
- Big Rock Brewery
- Brewsters Brewing Company
- Cannery Brewing
- Hog's Head Brewing
- Jasper Brewing Company
- Paddock Wood Brewing Company
- Parallel 49 Brewing Company
- Phillips Brewing Company

Edmonton Beer Geeks Anonymous produces Alberta's only dedicated cask ale festival, and is proud to support local brewers!
