Bellwoods X Pen Druid Ligo

Post by BartOwl »

Ligo is a Wild Virginia Farmhouse Ale. It pours a straw golden colour like a pilsener. It's taste/aroma has a slightly harsh phenolic and spicy element, which is balance by the silky smooth oats grain. There is a resinous piney flavour, which is usually attributed to hops. In this case, I think it is fermentation by-product that causes the taste. While it is similar to other spontaneously fermented beers like geuze, in that it is complex and unique, it is still different from most other beers I have had in this style. Definitely not a session beer. I am glad I tried it, and I would recommend it to others.
