Had an opportunity to sample the Black Wych from England Wychwood Brewery this weekend. Very nice caramel notes. This is one of a few new beers I picked up this weekend at the LCBO.

I also had a crack at this one, but found it too thin and flavourless to be a credible stout, and not particularly enjoyable by any standard.

I have not had all of the fall releases yet, but it looks to me like the Schlenkerla Marzen, Sam Smith's and Goudenband will be the keepers. We've seen these before of course, but if they want to bring back a few classics, who I am to argue?

Not to toot our own horn but please do give the Brugse Straffe Hendrik Brune a try. I have to admit we submitted it without tasting it first but since then we've tried the brew and read an incredible number of fabulous reviews of this beer...a fabulous Belgian offering! For the record, the LCBO told us that this was the highest scoring beer in their selection process for Autumn beers. As always, we don't hesitate to recommend the Rogue Dead Guy and the debut of the St. Peter's Strong Ale and the Hennepin from Ommegang in New York (you'll be seeing Ommegang products Ommegang and Rare Vos in 355ml at Smokeless within the next week or so as well!).

Any update on whether Esprit have convinced the LCBO to bring in Victory Hopdevil????

As an FYI, the Black Wych is part of the LCBO's new Fall Beers release, which is now beginning to show up on shelves. Here are the beers in the release:

I was at the Manulife LCBO tonight, and they had quite a few of the new beers. It is interesting to note that on Rogue's Dead Guy Ale, silkscreened onto the back label reads "Represented by Esprit Agencies". Way to go Peter!
