Shipyard ipa

Post by schomberger »

Yuck. As mentioned on another thread by cratez, I agree the flavours are Not integrated and IMO are not good, with some caramel (I think?)upfront which abruptly chages to a hoppy flavour but with a strange aftertaste underlying the expected ipa bitterness---I had to drain pour the last inch or so---I just couldn't stand another sip. Maybe it seemed worse than it really was because it contrasted so poorly with the beer I had just finished prior, which I had thoroughly enjoyed. Damn impulse purchases...

I am drinking one of these right now and I am pretty much on the same page as you. The aroma just as I opened the can was alright but with the first sip it went in a completely different direction. It is plenty bitter but not really in a good way. Definitely a one and done.

There's something wrong with this beer. Lots of floaters in the can I tried and the flavour... ecch.

This was atrocious. Tastes like orange scented wood cleaner, with hop extract added.

I agree with everyone so far, I didn't even get half way through. Now I have to find someone to give the second can to...

I don't think it's floaters but just unfiltered. To me it has a typical APA taste. Not the best example and perhaps a touch tired in the can, but characteristic of this style.

Now I understand what infected (not on purpose) beer tastes like!

I wonder if there was something wrong with this batch? There are plenty of great Untappd reviews, maybe it's just better on tap.

This isn't an infection, this is just a grade-A shitty beer.

Yep. I think this was the worst beer I've had all year. Smelled like detergent and flavour was all alcohol.

Some people seem to manage to stomach this though, so maybe there's more than one batch at the LCBO.
A shark on whisky is mighty risky. A shark on beer is a beer engineer.

Or just some people with bad palates?

Bought one of these before all the negative reviews on here happened, so I thought I'd give it a shot and truthfully, I gotta say I disagree with what most people wrote so far.... at least that was my inital thought when I first smelled it, but then I took a sip and it turns out everyone here is pretty bang on with the description. Just way out of balance and once it warms, even the aroma was an unharmonious mess.
I don't always drink beer ... because sometimes my friends win and we have to go to macro-only establishments.

I had this last night and it is absolutely awful. The worst part is that it isn't infected or anything, it's just a really badly made IPA.
