Red Racer - freshness

What do we know about the freshness of Red Racer in the LCBO these days?
Once upon a time, there were dates on the bottom of the can.... not any more.
I bought a number of unlabelled cans in the Fall and was quite disappointed.
Last week, I gave them another shot, and was pleased to taste the great Red Racer again; so I bought a few more at a different store and they taste old.
I'm not really willing to roll the dice on freshness, when there is so much other great stuff out there.
Thoughts?

Is there a way to decipher the code that is on the cans?

Someone asked about it on their facebook page and they mentioned how their printer broke down. That was near the first half of November though.

We're getting bombers from the new brewery now... I tried the first batch that showed up in Kelowna, and it actually seemed hoppier. Particularly the ESB (same with a keg around the same time). I wonder if it's just the cooling time for the larger batch size (more steeping in the whirlpool)?

It looks like the LCBO web site says Red Racer is discontinued. That would be disappointing. I was hoping the reappearance of bb dates would mean we could start finding some fresh Red Racer again...

I think any Red Racer in a location like Queen's Quay gets a high or daily turnover of recent stock. Least it never lets me down, good fresh brew!

Just make sure to keep the cans away from UV light and you should be fine.

Remind me how UV light impacts products that are canned?

Thanks. I guess I missed/forgot that.

Am I the only one who sometimes prefers 12oz cans instead of 16?

They're nice, but you have to hope it will come as a better value in the 16oz cans, though they may use this as a chance to up the price since Ontarians don't seem to have an issue with higher pricing.
