Honkers Ale - Bier Markt

Post by Cass »

Not sure where to put this. Saw a big sign outside of the Esplanade Bier Markt yesterday advertising exclusivity for Goose Island Honkers Ale. Evidently it will be a draught exclusive for the summer, and will be on tap in about 2 weeks.

Interesting to see more Goose in the market...

Meh, it's like when Canyon Creek had Leffe Blonde as an exclusive brew for a summer, just an AB-InBev purchased tap

The location of where it is is irrelevant. The interesting this is Goose itself on tap.

If AmBev = more Goose, maybe BCBS in Ontario that's ok with me. Maybe I'm in the minority on that one.

I have no issue with AB-InBev distributing Goose Island products here, I've bought a few of them in the LC myself. But let's not pretend that AB isn't complicit in buying taps, which stifles competition for local producers

Ok, but really not the issue. And don't kid yourself that locals aren't in that game too.

Noticed that the LCBO online system is kinda wonky lately or wonkier with respect to Goose Island.

Checked for Nero or Jacques, nada online, go into my local store and its sitting on the shelf. Matilda and Sofie getting some weird lookup results. Seeing them in stores that said there wasn't any.

Bought a bunch when 1 store cut the price and was hoping the same happened with the Nero and Jacques.

It's on now. A friend of mine just texted from Bier Markt and was drinking one.

i've had this a couple of times. I never really liked GI, having visited the brewpub in Chicago in earlier years a few times. However, when the beers became available here, this one and IPA, I tried them.

I decided I like Honker's quite a bit, but the IPA, not so much. The Honker's is on the English vector although not quite there, which is fine. It reminded of something I couldn't put my finger on. Finally it twigged: the old Ballantine India Pale Ale (not the revival). It is like a lighter version of that beer.

I'd wish it to be more assertive, but it's very drinkable and with a nice taste.

I had mine earlier tonight at Duke of Kent.
