Cognac barrel aged twice as mad tom

Post by JeffPorter »

I'm curious to know of those who have tried it what others think. A friend went to Brace bridge this weekend and brought me a bottle of this and Winter Jack.

Pours much more orange than the original beer and it's got an abundance of 9.2.

Nose is citrus from the hops or cognac. Grapefruit and some candy that I can't point out.

Flavor is more citrus. Again grapefruit with a harsher bitterness at the end. With a bit of soft oak and vanilla.

I never really liked cognac aged beers that much but this is nice.

Not a DIPA to be sure...more like a barley wine.

Shocking at first because you're expecting those great mad tom flavor and they are there but hidden.

A nice experiment that seems to work but I would probably prefer some fresh 2 mad tom instead...can't wait to try the winter jack. I'd like to try more barrel one off from Muskoka.

^ I'm hating the spelling auto-correct on mobile devices. "Here let me change that place name into two nouns that make no sense right there..."

That said I'm curious to try CBA TAMTOM based on your review.

New Samsung and I'm not liking the auto correct.

I have one bottle of this left...and two of the Winter Jack from last year.
Liek you said, a taste surprise for the Twice and Mad in Cognac....I quite like it as well.
Do you know if they had a new batch of Winter Jack at the Brewery or is it still from their stash from last year?
