Bush Pilot Norseman
Bush Pilot Norseman
Enjoying a bottle of Norseman with Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. Seemed apt considering the beer's nordic roots and it's aging in armagnac barrels.
This is a beast of a brew, and I mean that in the best possible of ways. Huge caramel and alcohol soaked raisin flavour. Slick mouthfeel with a hefty residual sweetness and warming alcohol going down. The wood is lingering in the back and peeks through every now and then. Reminds me a little bit more of a English barley wine than an eisbock (Aventinus being the example that most people are familiar with, but its a beauty.
People looking for a bigger brew, but wary of the feedback on Mikeller Black might want to give this one a look. 14.5% and somewhere around $12.75 for a 750ml at our friendly liquor monopoly.
Curious what others think...

It is a marked improvement over stormy monday. It's essentially the best barleywine I've had out of ontario and the barrels lend a good, albeit subtle, flavor. The finish still has an astringent bite to it similar to what i tasted in stormy monday. I don't know if its the alcohol or something up with the bittering hops being used but it's something the bush pilot guys need to work on. They're moving in the right direction, though, and i look forward to the next project.
