Hafis was Dead at 12:15. I’m guessing the SK variants last a bit

I love the regular SK this year - had the coconut and the coffee ones at the release/holiday party and I felt that both the coconut and coffee flavours, respectively, were overpowering to the already excellent beer. Perhaps with age it would be better integrated. I passed on the variants.

I'm guessing the $17 price tag had something to do with it. That certainly was for me to stay away. BOYD was $14 and even that was too much for me.
I tried a few of Bellwoods stuff and although I thought they were decent, I deemed they were never good enough to justify their prices.
I'd rather spend my bucks in replenishing my shrinking stock of Backwoods Bastard.

I thought the coffee was excellent. The coconut tasted just like regular SK. Had the coffee on tap at Hafis and a bottle of the coconut at home.

Ya, that price...woof.
I've heard that from many beer people that the price is just too rich for them. Myself, only 1 of each is enough at $17.

$12 a bottle for 500ml is ok for me. At $14-15, it has to be a special annual / one-time brew. Above $15 for that volume of beer, it's not something I expect to pay often, given how many beer options are out there.

There are some extremely satisfactory options in stouts and porters right now. Ten Fidy, wow. To Øl Black Ball Porter is just so nice. Stouts like Founders are landscape-changers. Haven't even tried the Yeti yeti, and of course the Great Lakes 30th BBA RIS is stunning (and worth the bomber price.)

Bellwoods stuff is of course very special when they hit it just right. Same with Burdock. I envy us.

The lower priced options must be a big factor. The fact these Bellwoods releases are coming when most people are faced with paying off Christmas credit card bills doesn't help.

Long line-ups create FOMO. With increased distribution (Hafis), shorter lines, longer availability, and higher prices, FOMO dissipates (i.e. if its still available on Monday or beyond, it can't be that good...)

Wasn't a huge fan of the OG SK on tap.. opened coconut bottle this morning, at ~55F, and it's lovely. Really nice. Boozy rum, but not over the top. I wasn't a fan of the OG on tap, as it was a spice bomb, ginger nose, and a lot going on. Well made but not for me.

However, there's not a huge lot of coconut in this variant, perhaps more vanilla. I would say the coconut smooths out the back end, it lingers. Worth a purchase.

I'm gonna try and swing in after work. Although, if anything like the GL takeovers, there should be some stuff still flowing for the next few days as well.

Anyone know if they've been brewing Hellwoods and plan on releasing any time soon?

Has anyone else tried the new Black Roses imperial stout? I'm still hoping for a Hellwoods release, but visited the Ossington brewpub last night to give Black Roses a shot in the meantime. Overall, I think it was well executed and a successful experiment. The dates definitely impart some sweetness upfront that make this beer almost an IS/BDSA hybrid, but it's still firmly a stout with a nice roasted edge on the backend. There is also a discernible floral character from the rose petals that frankly I neither loved nor hated and could do without. I didn't notice much impact from the conditioning on toasted almonds and pistachios; was hoping this treatment would make a bigger impression. I picked up a couple of bottles so we'll have to see how these compare to the draft pour.
