But the right to be uncivil + the often negative or 'offended' social response to it are both free speech. Both are important to this process. An errant brewery will thus be corrected by social mechanisms that reflect our evolving sensibilities, that's enough.

And we have enough laws that we don't need to weasel-word our way into defining everything that people can or can't say. Let the thing self-regulate in the way it was meant to, insofar as that is practical (for example, anything not inciting hate or physical danger on people.)

I'm not dismissing the importance or truth of what you are saying. People have all sorts of variations of ability to change things through their decisions. Yes this discussion is about picking off the easy ones, like "hmmm, I have a choice of 20 IPAs in front of me at the LCB0 (definitely not a first world problem a few years ago ) Should I pick the one with the offensive label?"

Ahh, I think you may have inadvertently hit on something here. It's easy to have the courage of your convictions when there are so many choices, but would people have the same courage if the offending label was the only choice? Stewart Brewing from Scotland released a beer in Ontario called "First World Problems." To me the label art was hilarious in a snarky, clearly confrontational way. However, I'm sure others were put off. I sincerely believe that a moral and intellectual laziness has taken root in the west. We pick the low hanging fruit not because it's a precursor to greater change, but because it requires little actual effort or sacrifice. Someone giving up a beer/brewery because of allegedly sexist can art/name doesn't come close to passing my litmus test for a sacrifice. Despite this, I feel this thread has been a healthy example of real free speech, something that is on the endangered list and rapidly tumbling towards extinction. Cheers to all.

We have an indolent 'fake outrage culture', in part because we live in a better age than any time known in history.

So yes, we're inclined to propagate all this invented tragedy, drama and victimhood rather than bother improve anyone's actual lives.
