Smithworks Brewing Company

Post by The_Jester »

There is a new microbrewery in the original Kawartha Lakes Brewery site in Peterborough. It just opened last week, and right now they're only making a hefeweizen. A very, very solid, bottle-conditioned, hefeweizen. No food right now, just a store and a very nice tasting room, which offers a clear view of the brewing floor, and which was built by co-owner Randy Smith. Co-owner and head brewer Graham Smith won several awards for his hefe as a homebrewer; this does not taste like a first offering from a rookie brewer. It is a well constructed adult beverage. There are lots of photos on their facebook page, and they have a website as well.

They have a tasting room but only have one beer in their portfolio?

Yep. And you can taste it in their tasting room.

There are more beers on the way, but right now they are stocking up on the hefe. They opened with only the hefe because the hefe is ready now.

How much for a bottle of the Hefe? Might be in that area over the next couple weekends.

The Hefe is pretty good, I picked up a couple bottles to try on the weekend and will be going back again soon.

Coming out of lurk-mode to say these guys have really impressed lately. Love the dedication to German styles while everyone else runs off in all directions. Always been a bit of a keller-nut, but their mix pack was in heavy rotation in my fridge this summer. Nice bit of maturity in the operation, Creemore-like.
