Brew Slam 2015

Register at: http://www.gtabrews.ca/brewslam/register

We are nearly five weeks away from our first open-entry BJCP sanctioned homebrew competition! There's still plenty of time to brew and submit entries if you haven't already, the deadline to submit is September 25th. We have three drop off locations across the city: Toronto Brewing, Noble Hop and Brew North. Any and every homebrewer is welcome to enter, the more local entrants we have the more local winners we'll have! Check out the website for full entry details:
http://www.gtabrews.ca/brewslam/entry

The competition is featured on the Canadian Brewer of the Year Circuit (http://www.breweroftheyear.com/). Sponsorship and prizes are rolling in and we have some very exciting pro-am opportunities for prize winners.

Judges: We're recruiting BJCP judges and stewards via the same registration link above. If you're a BJCP judge (prospective or higher), we'd be delighted to have you. Judging will occur on Friday October 2nd (6.30pm) and Saturday October 3rd (10.00am), 2015 at Amsterdam Brewery (Leaside). Rack up those BJCP points!

Stewards: A massive part of this competition will be having an army of dedicated stewards. Far more than just pouring beer, you'll get to learn from experienced judges and sit in on judging rounds and hear the discussion. You'll also accumulate BJCP points if you aspire to take the exam and move up the ranks. Even if you don't enter and just want to get a flavor of what happens at beer competitions, your help would be appreciated. No prior experience required!

Lastly, we'll be having a pop-up homebrew bar following the competition to act as an award ceremony and we'll be recruiting homebrewers shortly. Stay tuned to our facebook group for details!

We'll do follow ups with volunteers sometime in the next week or so. It's just a sign up, not an application so you're in!

Is there anything I can answer or help with in the meantime? Are you planning to enter the competition as well? I hope so!

We've got a new post up on the blog talking about all the prizes you can win from Brew Slam 2015! Gift cards, Pro-Ams, and lots more!

http://www.gtabrews.ca/2015/09/brew-slam-prizes/

Go here to register: http://www.gtabrews.ca/brewslam/register

The entry deadline for brew slam is only 8 days away!

**Why You Should Enter**
Don't be shy about entering! We are here to help you! Ask us any questions you have and we can help you make sure your beer gets into the right style categorization.

Homebrew competitions are the best way to get unbiased feedback on your beer from experienced BJCP judges. Each entry will go through the judging process and receive very detailed feedback. A pair of judges will spend 10+ minutes examining each beer and each complete a scoresheet breaking your beer down into components and giving feedback. Here is what the scoresheet looks like: http://www.bjcp.org/docs/SCP_BeerScoreSheet.pdf

We have THREE drop off locations in Toronto so this makes it easy as pie to get your entries in! Also they are all open on weekends and outside the normal 9-5 hours.

Toronto is home to the largest pool of judges in Canada. This is why CBA and OBA pro brewing competitions are judged here. Many of the other competitions in Canada I've entered have 50% of the judges non-BJCP because they don't have enough judges for the number of entries they get. We expect to have 85%+ BJCP judges, a few professional brewers, and a few people studying to become BJCP judges. This means you should get the best feedback of any large competition in Canada!
