Ralph delivered more than he promised..night session was sardine packed, fortunately several servers who knew me let me in their space so I could drink some beers and take some notes.
I also really enjoyed meeting up against with Jean-Francois and Stephane from DDC. He shared the exciting news that they are an short rent negotiation away from taking over a bust microbrewery in St.-Jerome which will give them 40 barrels of bottling. Peche Mortel and 3 others will be in their first run, from his 55 recipes. The plan is that these bottles will be available for private orders from Volo,Smokeless, and Beer Bistro.

To Ralph, the Hard workin Volo Staff, and the Brewers, thank you for an awesome day, can't wait for CF07.

Once again Ralph has really out did him self. This was a fantastic event and it was great to have the Dieu du Ciel beers as well as the biergotter ales. Thanks to Ralph and the staff
It was also great that this event was sold out so soon as this shows that there is great demand for real ale in Toronto.
I will send a e-mail to CAMRA and hopefully my report on the cask day will make the letters page.

I liked a lot of the cheeses quite a bit, especially the blue. However my goal wasn't to pair beer and cheese. Personally I treated them as two seperate events considering last year I found that some of the cheeses adversely affected my palette for sampling beer and vice versa.sheepmilker wrote:While it's still fresh in your minds - did anyone discover any good cheese and beer pairings?
[disclaimer - our cheese was at the event!]
I don't always piss in a bottle but when I do...I prefer to call it Dos Equis.
Like Jon, I didn't make a point of trying any specific beer & cheese pairings. I find that those work best when I'm dealing with beer(s) and cheese(s) that I'm already familiar with, or when someone else has specifically put together some pairings based on trying them and putting some complimentary ones together.sheepmilker wrote:While it's still fresh in your minds - did anyone discover any good cheese and beer pairings?

That being said, I did enjoy all of the cheese I tried, including the ones from the pre-made box that we were given on the way in, and all four that were being sampled from the table in the middle of the restaurant.
The third one wasn't listed on the website or the program, it was a last minute addition to the non-cask selections along with the Merchant Ale House Pumpkin, the Stratford Oktoberfest and a couple of others. So I think a few people didn't realize it was there.Wheatsheaf wrote:Both? There were three!Jon Walker wrote:I particularly liked the Dieu du Ciel beers (both)
I thought the third DDC beer - Vaisseau des Songes - was great, but not as good as their two cask beers.
Had an awesome time last night! Chatted with many bartowellers, craft brewery reps and other beer geeks. Good to see everyone was in good spirits considering how crowded it was, getting to and from the casks.
Clever idea with the "charity" beers for those brews that cannot be sold in Ontario or outside of their own brewpub/homebrew club. I liked most of the brews I tried. The cheese and bread was excellent.
Ralph was given a well deserved applause at the end of the night. Count me in for next year!

Absolutely Incredible!
Many Thanks to Ralph, Aina, Thomas, Julian, Karl and the entire, hard working group at Volo, all the Brewers, commercial or homebrew, for making everything perfect. We are so lucky to have people like these, pulling out all the stops to promote this beautiful product called Cask Ale.
Cheers, and Thank You again, Doug

As I told Ralph it was the best party I've been to in years. It was really nice to talk to each of the staff that work there on a night where they weren't running around serving food, etc (not to say they weren't working hard!)
It was also really neat to meet alot of the brewers and have the chance to talk to them about up coming projects and what they do.
The Dieu Du Ciel was an incredible treat, the Peche Mortel was incredible.
Also a big hats off to the Biergotter Homebrew Club for what was one of the best IPA's I've ever had - great work guys! More to come I hope!
A great lineup, pleasure to try some experimental brews. Others that were slight variations, and others I had never tried to begin with.
I had an excellent, amazing time... great beer and great company always make for one. Can't wait for next years. Thanks to Ralph, the Volo Staff, all the organizers, the great brewers and all the friends who came out!

Couldn't agree more with all of the positive and well-deserved feedback. Congratulations to Ralph and team for helping to put Toronto on the cask ale map.
I think Ralph was interested in gathering people's votes on best beer and also best beer name, so I just sent them an e-mail with my votes (info@barvolo.com).
