Vankleek Hill Oktoberfest 2009 - Sat Oct 3rd

Post by GregClow »

Beau's All-Natural Brewing is partnering with acclaimed restaurateurs to create a unique Oktoberfest celebration in picturesque Vankleek Hill on October 3rd from 11am to 9pm at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds. The event will raise money for the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society, and will feature Guest of Honour, actor George Wendt (Norm from "Cheers").

The Bavarian-inspired food will be provided by some of the best restaurants in Ottawa: Allium, Domus, Murray Street Murray Street Kitchen Wine & Charcuterie, Pascale's All Natural Ice Cream, The Piggy Market, Urban Pear and Whalesbone; and a few hidden gems from further out: Ballygiblins (Carleton Place), The Branch Organic Restaurant (Kemptville), Knox Fine Dining (Moose Creek) and Mary's Country Kitchen (Vankleek Hill). The event also boasts 8 hours of live Oompah music, haywagon rides, free brewery tours, free games for kids and adults, homebrewing demonstrations and more. Beau’s All Natural will also be releasing its Fall seasonal beer, the Night Märzen, a traditional Oktoberfest lager. More announcements of entertainment will be announced shortly.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the gate. Bus packages including return trips from St. Laurent Shopping Centre are $25 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available at all Bridgehead locations, the Piggy Market (400 Winston Ave, Ottawa), at the brewery in Vankleek Hill and by phone at 866-585-BEER (2337).

A curse on my friend Steven for getting married the on the same day!

If anyone's able to grab this beer I will gladly buy or trade for it.

Beau's Oktoberfest was a great time, but was it ever packed! I heard they planned for 1000 or so and ended up with 4000. Fortunately we went early and were able to try a lot of the food...which was almost uniformly awesome. A lot of the places were selling out of food pretty early. The Night Marzen was great. I wish I could have brought some home but the line at the brewery was too long and I wasn't sure if they had any left. Hopefully they'll still be selling it for a while and I can pop back to the 'Hill soon. I'm glad it was a big hit as that should bode well for a repeat next year.

It was packed!! But I managed to get a few stiens full of the Night Marzen before they ran out. The food was great, especially those sausages from the Piggy Market. I will be back next year for sure!!

I think everyone at the brewery had a collective "oh crap!" moment when we saw the line up of people at the gates. We had been worried about what would happen if nobody showed up...none of us ever imagined this was a possibility. At about 5,000 people someone finally had the good sense to put a 'sold out' sign on the gate.

Luckily, everyone was pretty chill about the long lines and food shortages (although I have spent the day responding to a few grumpy emails). I guess patience and empathy are common traits of Beau's drinkers!

Cheers,

Steve
