For anyone who hasn't heard Garrett Oliver speak before, it would be well worth going, no matter what the beer and food selection's going to be. He's a really compelling speaker and talented brewer.hopaddict wrote:PassSanchex wrote:here is the latest from the caba:

Sounds like a great event... a chance to see Garrett Oliver is always a well spent evening. Knowing how much effort goes into organizing an event like this, we certainly hope there will be a solid turn out. You can bet that there is no bad beer where Mr.Oliver is around.
See you there.
See you there.
The Rhino has been doing some surprisingly ambitious (at least in comparison to their regular menu) and quite good stuff for their specials in the last year or so.Malcolm wrote:I wonder where The Rhino is going to order in that food from?
I had a steak there a couple of months back that was excellent. Not what you'd get from a high-end steak house to be sure, but for a place that usually does wings and nachos, it was a huge step up - really well cooked hunk of beef with fresh veg and great garlic mashed potatoes.
So I'm actually pretty optimistic that they'll do a good job of this.
Those who weren't there last night missed out on a great event!
The Rhino crew really pulled out the stops and put together a fantastic meal - it varied slightly from the above (elk instead of caribou, chocolate-raspberry tart instead of smores), but was still excellent all around, and all of the beers were as promised, plus a bonus Brooklyn Lager at the beginning.
The Wild 1 was an especially nice treat, as it's not available for retail sale at all, just at special events like the dinner. Plus it was spectacularly good!
Oh, and the beer samples were quite generous - each person got full bottles of the Lager and IPA, the Local 1 & Local 2 were large bottles split 4 ways, the Wild 1 were large bottles split 8 ways (only 12 bottles for the whole room so it had to be rationed), and the Stout was split 2 ways. If you weren't feeling pretty good by the end of the night, then you obviously weren't drinking your share.
Anyway, Chris and the others at the Rhino were really happy with how it went, and are not only considering doing more beer dinners, but perhaps making some changes to the regular food menu inspired by this experience. Can't wait to see what develops...

Agreed, this was a very enjoyable event. Garrett was a great speaker and the beer paired exceptionally well with each course. Good to hear that Chris is considering doing more of these at the Rhino.GregClow wrote:Those who weren't there last night missed out on a great event!

The Wild 1 was definitely the highlight for me. Having never tried a Brett' infected beer before, this was an eye opener. I definitely have an entirely new brewing world to pursue now.
Congratulations to both CABA and the Rhino for pulling off a great event.
